You have to have the mic hooked into the bracket for it to scan apparantly.

I have one of these and my dealer hooked it up to his computer and "disabled" this weird feature.

Thanks Muddy,

This is something to do with the earth, they wire them up so that the clip is the earth, but I don't think that this is the problem, but will keep it in mind, to have disabled if I can't come up with anything else.

Thanks
Russ

Final diagnosis - loose wire in the mic.

Thanks

The earthed microphone clip is a "hangover" from the IC-400PRO's commercial radio heritage. It can be disabled, but I found that it was easier to earth the microphone clip. Also, setting up scanning isn't that easy. Each channel can be in one or more different scan groups, if you have no channels entered in the selected scan group... it won't scan.

I have 2 Mike clips for mine, 1 is earthed and the other is not ,when i want it to scan i hang it in the earthed clip. And for those of you that want to know why i use two ,well when I'm working and really need the radio to stay on Ch40 it stays when on the non earthed clip ,When I am dealing with oversized loads and cars flitting about and truckies calling it must stay on 40 ,I had a couple of issues when I went to call someone and it went out on the wrong channel .

We used to do something similiar, except that we installed a switch in the earth wire to achieve the same thing........that way you only need one hook :-)

Yep - seems odd but the earthed hanger clip is required - I use mine as is - I think I see the logic, in that when the radio is on scan and it stops on traffic, you can pick up the mike to respond if you like - the scan stops ! - When done, you replace the mike and it will resume automatically - no button pressing required (you may be busy, needing to concentrate on the road etc) - like a lot of things, good for some situations, but not all.

Forgot to say.... have you tried the "repeater sniffer" - scans and reports on repeaters in range - will let you know what it finds - no paperwork required - love it.
