I’m planning a trip (next week) from
Marble Bar across to the Great Northern Highway, via the
Marble Bar-Hillside Road and the Hillside-
Woodstock Road. Two of us will be towing Bushtracker Off-Road caravans.
I would appreciate any up-to-date info on the road’s condition, and degree of difficulty.
Thanks everyone
Bob

Bob,
We travelled on part of the Marble Bar/Hillside road about four weeks ago. We tow an offroad camper trailer and had no problems. The road was in good condition and a really interesting trip. We left
Marble Bar, stopped at the
Flying Fox lookout, then at the
Comet Mine which was really worthwhile. From there we drove in to
Glen Herring Gorge but found it difficult walking right in to the main part of that. The road in there was a bit rocky, little bit corrugated and there was a fairly sharp little
creek crossing right at the end. They say take the right hand track where the road divides but either left/right takes you to
the gorge...just at different ends.
We didn't go right down to Hillside but took the cut off road which took us to the Newman/
Port Hedland railway line. From there we followed the railway line road up to Indee Station where we camped for the night. I can really recommend staying here. It was $12 for the night with hot showers etc and a Happy Hour with the Station owners Colin and Betty which was really good. They provide nibbles you bring your own drinks.
Great country and a good drive. Hope this helps.
Best wishes
Viv

Trying a bit of one up man ship here, used that road Friday 8th. ļ (Anyone beat that?)
There is a grader working between Hillside and
Woodstock and the whole road is in good condition. The
Shaw river crossing has been built up and doesn"'t require 4WD.
