G'day fellow 4x4ers, I'm planning a trip to Mackay and was wondering where are some good camping sites to visit along the way.

Hi Andrew,

We have just moved up to Mackay about 6 months ago. Are you still up here?

Hi BagBoy,

We have only done a small amount of camping since coming to Mackay but Carmila Beach is lovely and free too. About an hour South of Mackay. Also Notch Point is another great free camp.

Cheers Cackles,

Only just joined up and have as yet to get on a trip with them. They've been really good thus far at the meetings and no chit yet about the Patrol.

Are you a member?

No we aren't but should probably join sometime.
My partner worked for landrover spares, the boss there is involved in the club.
We've met a few over the years and they seem a decent bunch.

Hi Bag Boy,

Cape Palmerston, Eungella to Burdekin Dam, Homevale national park, Cathu state forest, byfield national park, Mia Mia state forest, Crediton state forest,
It really comes down to beach or bush round here.
As Andrew said it would help to know where you are coming from and whether you are doing the coastal or inland route.

Sitting at Carmilla Beach now watching the full moon rise. Great spot right on the beach, it's free and plenty of room, says 3 nights but stay as long as you like. No showers but toilets here.
