Hypothetically, if you had a friend who didn't know much about auto electrics and decided to change the trailer plug on his 120 Prado ... and he taped the wires together whilst he watched the footy before attaching the new plug... and while he was watching the footy his wife took the prado down the shops ... and came back to tell him that the indicators and stop lights were not working ... and he replaced the blown fuses (#5 and #21 from the owners manual) ... and that got the stop lights working and the emergency flashers ( the latter which has the same fuse as the indicators) working but not the indicators ... and he checked the bulbs but they were fine. What advice would you give him .... hypothetically?

Hypothetically,,,,,go to a bloody sparkie....lol.
Other than that, first thing is to separate al the wires at the trailer plug, then start checking all the lights etc on the playdoe.
If not all working, then start at the fuse box, then go to individual bulbs.
From there,go back to the trailer wiring ( a test light comes in handy at this point), and check each wire to see if they all function.
If a problem still exists,,,,,go to a bloody sparkie....:)

Hypothetically, I'd tell him to get a tv in the car so he could have finished the job and watched the footy at the same time. Lucky he didn't spike the computer.
Seriously, the fuse for the indicators and the
hazard lights are usually seperate.
The hazards on their own so they don't blow as often. Use a test light to see if there is power to the fuses (on both sides of the fuse). Check to see if there are any other fuse boxes. Dad's 100 series diesel (non turbo) has 3. 1 in the D/S kick panel, 1 in the P/S kick panel and 1 in the engine bay.
Or he could buy the wife a push bike then these things wouldn't happen in the 1st place LOL

Sorry, I meant to say that the
Hazard and horn are together so if the horn doesn't work then it is the fuse.

I would suggest that, if I found myself in such a situation, I would conjure up a test light and start at the back then work forward until I find the point to which power is getting.
ie start at the indicator fitting, jump to the fuse box if no power to the former. And so on. There are really only a couple of such points in most vehicles . . light fitting, fuses usually around
the pilot seat somewhere, and occasionally another fuse in the engine bay.
Handy little gadget is the test light. And fuses.
Wish your hypothetical friend luck.

Harry,
Obviously your wife is the cause of the problem. Therefore, it is incumbent on her to rectify the situation.
Stand up and be a man....we'll support you (from afar).
Once your out of hospital, give us an update.

Harry1, hypotheticaly:
1. "There is no problem so large and difficult, that with a bit more tinkering, cannot be made a hell of a lot worse." Guess you kinda worked that one out...
2. Football is not good for your health (Has you wife stopped beating you yet?).
3. I see you are using the "secret mens business" way of making sure you never get asked or expected to do anything to the vehicle again.
Well done, and mission accomplished....(works
well for the dishes and laundry/ironing too)
