Hi All
How much of the 90 litres of a Troopy tank can you use? Ours shows empty and 80 litres is the most we have ever put in it. Not game to run it empty though we think there are still litres in it based on usual consumption.

Seriously, Your right there is a fair bit in reserve from when the fuel needle is pointing to empty till it is actually empty . Exactly how much , i dont know . As soon as the main tank needle is pointing to empty i transfer the quarter tank that i keep in the reserve tank over to the main tank .

My 78 series hits 86 -87 litres and she coughs, I then change tanks.

A trip I just returned from had 2 other Troopies and one guy got 88 litres before she coughs the other had a long range tank and did not hit bottom of the 90 so don't know what his results were.

You still have between 5 and 8 litres is my suggestion.

Hi John,
Using your tank until it "coughs" is pretty unkind to the injection pump, which relies on diesel for its lubrication. I avoid doing this.

Cheers

Yeah Phil have heard this before, I don't do it as a regular matter of course.

Although on an interesting point nowhere does Toyota tell us not to do it???? That I have been able to see anyway.

My HZJ80 fuel light comes on with around 10l left in the tank. I have on occasions used about 5L of that, but I try not to. After the light comes on, methinks the vehicle starts trying to use the crud in the bottom of the tank...which can be vewwwy expensive.

Also most I have put in is 85 litres.

Most I got out of a tank was 625 kms.
But never below 600kms driving on the roads in suburbia.

Cheers Tony

Anywhere from 75 to 85 litres before it 'coughs' which isn't a good idea as for the seconds that the injection pump is low on fuel it is grinding it's innards out.
After a while I just put a dob of white paint on the gauge at the point at which I should change tanks.
It always ended up around the 75 -80 litre mark.
Once I drained the rear tank via the bung and still only got 85 litres in on a dry fill even taking care to get the vehicle parked at the right angle.
