1) how old is the set?
2)are you/it always in dusty conditions?
3) replace/clean out the mic,,,,,this will help no end to solving your problem.

I know some people that don't actually talk into the microphone Dan and they can hardly be heard. Perhaps you don't....... I know I can sometimes feel the fingers against the beard, that close with a trimmed beard!

Thanks guys for your responses.
The radio is about 1 year old and basically never see's any dust. I've borrowed friends GME mics and still the same result, so i've rulled out a faulty mic.
I have a middle of the range 6db ground independant aerial.
And i've also tryed yelling into the mic, but still been told im whispering.
hope this helps
Dan

Sounds like the radio has low FM deviation, a radio tech will check it out for you.

a test of your raidio with an S.W.R. meter would be handy. bab connections were the cause of 95% of the faults i've cleared.
good luck

I recall that GME give a 2 year warranty with their products (to original owners). Suggest you take it back.
But the problem doesn't sound like an antenna issue (not swr). More like a transmit modulation problem; ie, either the mic is faulty, or the transmitter has a problem.

Test your antenna cable with a multimeter for a dead short. Just remember to remove the antenna first.
One of your connections may have a strand of braid touching the inner core of the coax.

Good luck,
Brett

Dan

Big woody's on the money. I had the same problem and it turned out to be a broken connection at the aerial. The cable running through the big springy thingy at the base was the issue as apparently if the aerial is bent fully over the cable can be strained.

Get that checked/fixed and all should be OK.

Cheers

Can you swap radios (car to car) ?? That would eliminate antenna problems or identify if it is the radio thats faulty??
