Hi Willem,
Great story and piccies. I haven't been that way yet but am attracted to the art and the wildlife. I am pleased you did the right thing with the little sand goanna. Sounds like some prado owner was none to happy, I guess it was a long walk to anywhere from there. Ditto for the van owner from the sounds of things.
Kind regards
Theo

Hi Theo
I am finally getting to some of the
places I have dreamt of going to over the years. Every now and then you hear of this place or that place which gets your interest up and then it takes a lot of planning to do the trek.
Regards

G'day Willem
Great read. Must always rain at
Georgia Bore - I recall getting wet there too. Glad to see you gave the Sand Goanna its home back - lucky the little bugger didn't get himself cooked (accidentally of course!).
Cheers from the Moose

Yeah Moose
I was cold all the way to
Newman....lol
Actually I very seldom seem to strike rain when out in the never never. When I lived up in
Darwin however our trips were frequently flooded out and I remember sleeping on a
camp stretcher in a tent with
water running through the tent.
Luckily it all dries out again once the sun comes out :-)
Cheers

Good pics Willem. I have heard that you used to own Rosie, the G60 Patrol now used at Waraweena (i've forgotten the name of the manager, Dutch bloke). Is that true? I see you did own a G60 3 speed.

Yes Barnesy
I found old Rosie in
Bundaberg and had her 6 years and clocked an extra 200,000km on to her. Rosie had a 5 speed gearbox. When she came to the end of her use with me(550,000km) I gave her to Stony so that he could use her for station duties.
The manager at Warraweena is Stony Steiner and he is of Swiss origin.

Apart from my
UHF radio and CDMA phone I have a
HF Radio, and a Satphone as
well. If you click on my Rig Pic you should see the list of stuff I cart around.

Hi Willem,
You say there was no
water at
Empress Spring. You are not alone in saying that lately in a trip report. I read that somewhere else recently??
Did you go all the way down to the third chamber?

G'day Equinox
I could not get down right into the third chamber because of mobility problems but another younger member of our party did and reported that there was dampness there but no
water as such.

Big Fella
Our dog(one very spoilt Princess), a Blue heeler crossed with many others, sits on the left hand rear passenger
seat where she usually tears up what ever material she can sink her teeth into. I covew4r the seats with a strong plastic cover. Other than that she hangs her head out of the window and bites at passing foliage. On the highway she goes mental at passing B doubles and Road trains, especially red ones. We sleep in a tent and Jeddah sleeps in the truck. She extremely protective of her truck and
camp site for that matter. She doesnt smell too badly and only farts occasionally...lol
We tend to give National Parks a miss but on occasions I have had to sneak through them with dog in the back and have escaped being caught so far. In WA and NSW(and probably other states as
well) there are thousasnds of 1080 baits laid everywhere and one has to be extremely careful taking a dog with you.
Cheers

Willem,
Thank you for your report. Reading it has made me start dreaming again. I get that faraway look in my eye and Ray knows that he may have to endure more corrugations!
I have a heeler too...her name is Ziddi which means someone who stands up for themselves regardless of the consequences...stubborn... in the Sikh language.
