The British demonstrating what slow learners they are.
Hope they charge the baaaaaaaaastard

A 50-year-old British tourist who became lost in bush north of Alice Springs last week has gone missing again.

The man sparked a major air and ground search last Tuesday when he rang police to say he had become disorientated near the Telegraph Station.

He was eventually found and taken to hospital suffering sunburn and dehydration.

Just after midday today police received another phone call from the tourist on his mobile saying he was lost in roughly the same area.

Police have again launched a major air and ground search to find him.

You have to ask the question why was he discharged from hospital and why weren't the police involved in taking him to a safer place etc. I suppose they will now. No sane person does that twice in a row.

I don't sling out at health services but recently in the NT there have been a few deaths of people left at the wrong airstrips, including one guy with kidney problems left in a wheel chair to die, as he did! Care and responsibility eh?

I haven't heard about these cases but if the people were very sick they should have been escorted by an ambulance straight onto the plane.

If someone has special medical needs they should either go by RFDS or for non emergencies by commercial flight. In which case the airline needs to be aware of their requirements.

It certainly sounds like some bizarre situations if that is indeed what happened.

You don't have to be insane to be stupid. He had enough mental ability to realise he was in trouble, get on the phone and call for help. That in itself shows rational behaviour - I too hope they charge the peanut!

Scoey, it is obvious you have never worked in the health field. This small article gives us no insight into the person's state of mind and to assume he's rational is being presumptuous.

G'Day Barnesy,
Nope, I've never worked in the health field. Not sure why that's obvious but. Was there something incorrect with my theory that you don't have to be insane to be stupid?

I agree that the article gives us no insight into the bloke's state of mind, and therefore, I think to assume then that he's insane is also presumptuous. Perhaps you've been working in the health field too long? You made the first assumption - I simply rebutted it.

I guess i just get sick of hearing about people doing stupid things and then palming the blame onto everyone else except themselves which may or may not be the case in this instance. I just got the impression from your post that you felt it was either the hospital staff or the police's fault. Could be worng but that was my impression.

Cheers
Scoey!

I do work in a hospital and things like this do happen. I'm not blaming the police or hospital staff but the questions i raised are ones that we will ask ourselves to ensure there isn't a third search.

If a person does something obviously dumb like this the first line of inquiry for doctors is to ascertain the POSSIBILITY of a mental problem. If it's found there isn't a mental problem but he is just trying to stir up trouble then the police will take over.

Hey Barnesy,

Fair enough point you make. I guess we both are looking at the same problem from different angles - and as always, it's hard to make your point clear when you type it out! Bottom line - hope they find the bloke again! ;-)

Take yourself and have a lie down.
Don't be aggressive about such a small thing said about someone else, unless your the peanut who keeps getting lost then I might understand you getting aggravated.

HAHAHA

Apparently he knew what to do in such a situation....

He found a shady spot to wait - but unfortunately a German tourist had left their towel there.
