I am thinking about purchasing the New Rodeo RA but am a bit uncertain about the quality of the vehicle off road. Its looks great but I need an opinion from someone who doesnt work for a Holden Dealer.

I also have a concern with my local Holden Dealer, I am not sure that if I purchase this vehicle that I want to go through them to have it serviced. Although they insist I should. Does anyone else have any problems with their Holden Service Dept. (especially warranty)?????????????

G'day Josie,

I think it is early days to be getting an unbiased opinion on the new Rodeo's offroad ability, though I suppose some new and excited owner is out there somewhere putting one through its paces :) :) .

They have only just hit town.

If they are anything like the old ones they should be quite a competent little performer.

I guess you will have to be a little bit patient.

As for service, if it is a GM factory warranty the law says you can have your vehicle serviced at any registered mechanic and still keep the warranty - providing all parts replaced are genuine GM parts and the vehicle is serviced in accordance with GM guidelines. This applies to all manufacturers - if the dealer objects talk to your local RAC/NRMA organisation.

If it is one of those special "dealer" warranties I am afraid you have to bite the bullet and stick with them, as it is in the fine print of the warranty.

My local GM dealer is offering 6 years and 175,000 km on any new GM vehicle - it is their own warranty and nothing to do with GM. If you want to take it out you must accept their terms - which are - "service through us or void the warranty."

It is a bit of a double edged sword. The 6 years and 175K is attractive, but they will catch you on parts and labour with their warranty.

A lot of those "private" warranties also insist on 5,000Km or 3 months service intervals which is absolutely over the odds in this day and age.

Enjoy the bush

Hi,

The crowd I worked for did use and still use Rodeos in 4 x 4 & 4 x 2 configurations. They are driven hard and not really looked after, yet they continue to work without missing a beat.

The only problem we encountered was with the clutch. It usually had to be replaced at 30,000 km and the back section (sometimes) had a habit of detaching itself from the chassis. We had GM look into this and it was deduced that the canopy fitted to the rear was too rigid and did not allow the chassis to flex properly. So loading is the issue here, I think. Also the place where we operated had heaps of table drains in a lot of the streets and driving through these also had an effect.

Despite this, if I had a need for a small 4 X 4 I would look at Rodeo seriously. Good value for money!

I think there was one that broke its back crossing the simpson, probably overloaded or had a history of it. They are ok if operated within specs but being a ute..... boys will be boys. Always good to check the chassis for cracks on any make.

I know of one that broke while doing the CSR, but he was overloaded to the hilt.

All,
I am looking into purchasing one, to replace my current 2000 2.8 TD-Intercooled Rodeo 4x4. Just putting off the purchase until a bullbar is available for immediate fitment.
One thing I have noticed though is RA is not fitted with standard Isuzu recovery hooks front and rear, but more eye's which will require the use of shackles to use a snatch strap.

Cheers,

Dion.
