I'm going to put some lockers in the GU Patrol.
I thought I might have a go myself.
Question 1...Reading some posts on the Patrol list I have found it hard to decide where to mount the small ARB compressor. I have heard of them being mounted under the passeger
seat and others in the engine bay.....where is yours mounted? and why?
Question 2...Is this a hard job for an average-skilled person or is it better left to the pros for the around $600 fee?

Under the seats - away from mud, dust an crap.. Will fit one again soon :)
Aint too hard to do, but depends how mechanically minded you are.
$600 to fit the compressor or is that including the compressor ????? Fawk!

After re-reading my post i can see where I went wrong.....Question 2 is referring to the total installation of Lockers etc not just the compressor.....

Wayne,
Mine is fitted neatly on the driver side windscreen corner - far better than taking space under the
seat in my view. Done by ARB
Richmond and I'm certain it wasn't $600 wehn fitted witrh the locker.

Hi Wayne
Patrol list is getting a bit quiet isn't it.
Mounted
mine in engine bay against firewall passenger side !
Using special brackets I made to allow easy service - just as
well
as had pressure switch fail recently.
This allowed for easy fittement of air outlet for blowing up tyres.
Added thin Alum heatshield to, not that it was that close to exhaust.
Used a couple of different compressors at times.
ARB wiring loom a little light on and it makes it so you have to engage rear first ,which I definately do not like hence made my own.
Installed front locker here myself , ARB did rear later at $250.
You need a few taps dies and bearing pullers and it was 2 day job for me.
Did it fun , and it wasn't much hence ARB did second one.

Yeh Robin,
seems to have died down a bit, as it does from time to time....
I am starting to think that ARB will get the whole job, i am not getting any younger and i probably don't have the
tools needed, pullers etc....

after asking this same question a few weeks ago & getting some great help & photos sent as space was/ is running out under the bonnet of 2004 6x4 Nissan st tdi with dual battery's Glind heat exchange etc
1) fitted it left rear inner guard behind 2nd battery Very neat (tight)
2) Not under
seat as have been in too many with the diff oil smell coming back up the line (know this is a seal, but to drive
home many Klms with this before one has time to fix is not good)
3) make sure if you have it fitted the switches are mounted out of the way i asked to have them in dash near aerial switch but were fitted in left side of console & have had to move them as i was always bumping them on ( not a good sound if the hubs are locked in or in 4wd & in motion i think the pin is now shorter)
4) also watch the air line as
mine was fitted very close to the turbo (did not get heat affected but it would not have been long)
regards Vince

Hi Waynepd,
Mines under the passengers
seat - nice and dry and out of harms way. Wife thinks its a good place as
well ;-) Have photos of my setup and a couple of others on my website -

Mine is under the front passenger
seat. It was originally mounted under the bonnet, passenger side but I had probs with thermal cut out. Now it works great.
I leave the tyre inflation hose connected all the time.
Mine is a homemade jobbie using abalone hose, not the "telephone cable type springie thing" ARB supply. I run it under the dust mat in the back
seat and up to the little side pocket under the fixed glass in the luggage area. The hose is coiled there and can be reached through by opening the rear doors. From this point I can reach all the tyres including the trailer.

Thanks to all for your responses, I think i will let common sense prevail and have ARB do the job from go to whoa. I was concerned about the diff oil smell in the cabin and some of you appear to have experienced this. Not my favourite smell I must admit...
They are giving me a good price with the Patrol Club Discount anyway so i am in front of retail...might as
well let them skin their knuckles eh :))

Not sure why there would be diff smells in the cabin area???
If the pump is mounted under the
seat etc, they can just run one hose thru the firewall to a manifold from where the outlets to the 2 diff lock solenoids (and the tyre inflator outlet too if you like) can all be mounted.
In my case, I've got my pumps and air tanks in the cargo area, then I've got hoses going all over the bloody place (including a gauge on the "A" pillar), using "T" pieces in that Festo type hose.
Too easy.
