Peter, haven't heard that one. I just hope that if its true, it isn't as ugly and full of electronics as the latest batch of 4wds have been so far.

Next year with a range of options supposed to include a 4 door version and twin turbo V8.
I shudder at the price of a 4 door twin turbo V8..............

I reckon the sell out of the current model TD will be pretty popular. They can't get enough of them now.
I get the feeling that current 78/79series owners won't like the new model. But it will be intersting to see. Not everyone wants a twin turbo V8 in a vehicle for remote travel.

Phil,
I always have a look in the Toyota yards when driving past, never see a troopy in stock, not a 1HZ, not a turbo and definately not an RV-until about 3-4months ago. Every dealer on our trip up NQ has had a TD Troopy in stock!! No doubt this is to unload these soon to be replaced models.
I agree with your comments re the actual need of the new motor for most but in my case it would be very welcome. Our Troopy is permantly packed and tows a 3+tonne caravan. I need all the power I can get and look forward to seeing how this new one turns out. Not sure you can make a troopy any uglier but if anyone can do it Toyota can!
If the new one is a dud I still expect prices to fall for 78series TD's so might have to chase a good one of them down.

I do believe that is correct.Toyota is loosing too many sales to the Mines over to Nissan because because of work place safety issues , ie air bags for driver and passenger , ,4 doors, etc and probably a whole heap of other BS as
well. But i guess it is time for a new model , Can't find any info on the net yet.

I dont believe the 4 dr will be a true troopy . It will probablly be an updated version of the 77 series which has been around in Japan since 1990.
Its a bit like a LJ78 or LWB bundeera but with the heavy duty front like a 78/79 series.

G'day all,
The new "troopy" will come out in troop-carrier configuration, dual-cab chassis, 4 door wagon and single cab configurations. The engine will be a 4.4 litre "single" turbo diesel. The twin turbo intercooled diesel engine will be only avaiab;e in the 100 series replacement.
The 2007 model will be the only year that this new landcruiser will be available without airbags, so if you want to get one and do a bodylift then this is the year model for you for the 2008 model onwards will be incorporated with twin front airbags.
Fuel concumption figures , the latest I heard was 9.9 per 100km combined average, but they were still testing to confirm these results over the few vehicles they were testing here.
Hope that helped you guys out. The what I know to the best of my ability and sources.

hmmm.. who do you know at Toyota?? Have you heard anything regarding a price for these new models?? I guess a small rise is typical when a new model comes out?
