Hi all,
We are looking to buy a small washing machine for caravanning, we have a bucket type but am looking to upgrade. We are looking at the Lemair it looks good and the price seems a bit higher now that the old posts on this
forum have it.
Just wondering if anyone has any up to date information and how much to pay for one,we are in
Brisbane, thanking you in advance.

I'll second this one, fill, drive, rinse, dry, wear...
Water tight drums can be had cheap from army disposals.

Hey Wazzaaa
A whole lot of the people on this thread are Nissan drivers so asking that sort of question here is not likely to generate much of a response.
It may be better to post onto "Caravaners forum" or "Touring Oz" there are more Toyota people over there.
Batterning down the hatches as I speak!!!!

eerfree,
As it happens I own a nissan patrol just spent over $12000 doing it up, not wanting to part with it, any now I am looking for a new washing machine. After 3 or 4 weeks of beach
camping the bucket washing is always left to me or I am told we can to go home and wash. I choose staying a bit longer and so washing machine it has to be.

Not sure if this is of any value to you, but I received a catalogue in the mailbox yesterday that had a Mini Washing Machine in it. Measures 45 x 30 x 34 cm and takes loads up to 1 kilo. Let me have your email and I will scan the ad and shoot it off to you.
Got no idea what they are like, but put it in the back of my mind for later.

You can actually buy a 2kg washing machine from most electrical/ white goods stores ? brand - our neighbour in
Alice springs MacDonnell
Range caravan park bought one for about $200 - at $2 a load or a out $6 to $8 a wek it paid itself off in no time - it aggitated & rinsed & filled itself up, etc like the front loader at home -had to be hooked up to
water tap mains and drained onto the grass -worked a treat. Our 1kg 12V / 240V (can be used on 300w inverter) - works with the basics - shorts & t's, jocks and socks - it only needs to be drained and filled manually, & is not self rinsing - similer to the bucket but looks like a mini washing machine. The spinning barrel types also work
well but get brittle after a while in the sun.

Look up the Dometic (yes that is how it is spelt) brand. i know they put out a front loader that does up to 3kg loads, designed for caravans.
Haven't seen a price yet so may not be cheap. Let us know what you found.
Though i was thinking about getting a small one for upstairs just to do nappies until i can afford internal stairs ...

Hi Wazzaaaa,
My parents bought one of the Lemair machines for there travells and can not speal highly enough of it. Dad has mounted it in a custom built box on the drawbar and there it stays, quick connect
water fittings both in and out on the outside of the box. From memory I think they only paid $199 on special at Hardly Normal (Harvey Normans).
Hope that helps.
Phil

hey wazza,
my folks have a patrol, and used an old twin tub washing machine one their trip our Oz a few years ago. Stored it in the rear of the truck. they were towing a van though. whenever they pulled into a caravan
park (most of the trip was spent in roadside layovers) they just dragged it out, hooked up to power and did the washing. worked a charm.
cheers

I have the Lemair & it works a treat. Don't buy it from a caravan place though, the good guys or hardly normal will get them in and give you a better price...
Mine cost $279...

Hi Wazzaaaa,
the people camped on both sides of us a
Karumba when we were camped there for a month this year both had a Lemair. One had just brought it from retravision in
Karumba for about $300. The both loved them. I looked into getting one, but we dont have enought room. At $3 per wash and 4-5 washes a week for the family it would only take a few months to pay for it. One lady had single beds and said that she did 2 single sheets in a load, the other said that she did 2 queen sheets per load. She also puts the day before's clothes on every morning and hangs it out after breakfast, gets it in in the arvo after fishing! sounds better than waiting for the washing machine in the
toilets and never having enough $1 coins!
Good luck
Ellen

in the carapark filled with workers washing machines were always full working
reason we bought the Lemair
we washed every morning first thing out of bed and hung out before going to work
when we moved to a farm that had gas hot
water shower/
toilet no power we bought the GMC and run Lemair from that. waiting on new van with solar panels

Thanks very much for the replys, everyone has valuable experience in what they have used or encountered thank you for sharing yours. I did look into all the sugestions but I think the lemair was what we were looking for, I never would of thought of looking at the big retail stores ( thank you) as I thought it would of been only sold at caravan stores.
Well what do you know the local good guys had it on the floor and they readily droped the price $30 for cash, I said great but later paid with credit card as I did not have enough cash.
Again thank you
Wazza
