Hi all,
I have a question about Advance powers Generators. Are they as good as the Honda ones. They seem to have the same motor as the Honda, what else is different. The one that caught my eye was the 1.7Kw one, it's big enough to run most of my gear but not quite as big as the Honda EU2.0. Which way should I go. I don't use lap top computers but may use it to run my 60l engle on some occasions.

Personally I dont think you will find better than honda, yes they are probably dearer then any other on the market but you get what you pay for, some people have kipors, gmc, scorpion, yamaha, the list goes on, Depends on wether you want to pay 2k for a 20cui honda or $500 for a gmc, Ive just got a gmc 2300 runs everything I want it to run including laptop had no problems, but if you are looking at saving every bit of space possible then the gmc is not for you 42kg compared to 15kg, the honda being about 1 3rd of the size of the gmc, honda will run for approx 15 hours on 8 Litres of fuel where the gmc will run for approx 8 hours on 12Litres of fuel. You will never get the exact answer your looking for, not that people on here dont want to be helpful but the fact there are so many generators of different brands now flooding the market all claiming the same sort of stuff watts, fuel usage, db's and the rest of it. My gmc is 1 db louder than the honda at 7 metres away but as said 27 kg heavier, will it last the distance compared to a honda, time will tell probably not but hey if it last half the time I'm still in front. I can buy 4 to the honda's 1. At the end of the day personal preferance. If you do a search for generators hope you have a day or two to read all the replys as there is a heap of info on here about them. Bit like the engel and waeco debate. Regards Steve M

Hi Steve,

I started to go through the threads on generators but like you said I'd need about 2 days solid to get anywhere. Of the ones that I read I hadn't come across the Advance power ones hence my question.
The Honda EU20 will probably still be my choice of generator when I end up getting one. I was just hopeing that someone had an advance power one for some type of feedback as to their quality.

Cheers Kev

Ive been thinking about generators too.
I was worried that many of the cheaper ones will have a lousy or non existant parts back up.
One shop I looked at said they have parts available for the Scorpion.
Im still leaninmg towards a Honda, even a slightly used one if it crops up.

Hi Ross,
The advance power one has the same motor as the Honda EU20 from what I have found. It is just the inverter thats different from what I could gather. It's around $400 cheaper than the EU20 and only output 1.7kW though

Hi Kev M,
Was curious so looked at their web site if this is it www.apower.com.au/portable/hushmate.htm I just can't see the 1.7Kw you talk of, I'm on my second honda traded the 1kva in on a 2kva last christmas(they would only trade hondas no other generaters) and only have praise for them both. My main use is for running my battery charger for the bank of batterys I have, last christmas a neighbouring camper had 2 deep cycle batterys he was also charging whith his new gmc he bought from bunnings I think he said, any way the gmc was not putting out enough amps for his 3 stage charger so even with the charger that came with the generator it it still was not keeping up with his 12v freezers. We ran an extension lead from the 2kva and it coped running both camps christmas lights and all. He has since taken it back and bought a honda where as before he said they were far too expensive, as everyone seems to say you get what you pay for. Not knocking other generators, the price has people using them for what ever their needs are, where as before if a honda was over budget they went with out
Wazza.

Wazzaaaa,
I saw the 1.7Kw one in a Trade tool shop so I don't know why its' not on the site.
From the amount of response that I'm getting makes me think that the Honda EU20 is the way to go.
Thanks
Kev

Lets not forget the Yamaha and Dunlite Robin powered types . I have used these in the building trade and they are as good as Honda.
Im not sure if they make models that can power sensitve equipment like laptops though
