Gregr, nope I'm a Nissan man tried and true and in my late 40's and if you can't take a bit of light hearted humour about the ZD30's then the problem is yours.
You've had a good run with yours so good luck to you but if you don't think that 13 ZD30 engine failures in this one
forum is a disproportionate amount then I certainly do.
In the Nissan club I'm in I know of 2 that have let go, at the engine builder around the corner who we deal with at work I have seen another 2, my mates turbo just let go in his series 3 at 150K.
On Ebay now you can buy complete aftermarket rebuild kits to suit ZD30's including new cylinder heads. This sort of thing doesn't usually happen until
well along in an engines design life.

I work in the motor racing industry and I have a pretty good understanding how things are stressed and these motors are a highly stressed item.
We are next door to an LPG specialist and in his view he will not be getting involved in any diesel/LPG conversions. I am currently looking at some info supplied by a company who came knocking at his door spruiking the benefits of diesel/LPG and here's some data off the brochure.
This is on a Pajero NP turbo diesel and note all these figures are CLAIMED not verified. On a distance travelled of 400km/week and at a diesel price of $1.45 and an LPG price of $0.50 with an economy of 9.52 kms/litre diesel and 8.92 kms/litre diesel/lpg and here's a BIG CLAIM: A diesel replacement rate of 58% they are claiming a 31.2% fuel saving.
Now, in all honesty. Would anyone even consider a 58% diesel replacement ratio? I think not.
In Mike's (the LPG fitter/installer) view it may be of benefit in a large freight carrying truck but with the proviso of constant monitoring of the engine and any possible early engine problems. He is not convinced of the supposed longevity of these systems in these small diesels that proliferate now.
I drive a 92 GQ efi dual fuel Patrol that has done just under 300K, it uses zero oil and just keeps on going. If I were to change to a diesel in all honesty the ZD30 would never be in my short list.
Regards Andrew.
