Hi
We all seem to be having problems with regs lately, and it seems to be common on other forums aswell. So why do we really need them if you can use 2 burner stoves and gas lamps without them ok. There seems to be a type of oil that comes out of the gas and is blown down the line which eventually blocks the jets. Friend of mine had a problem with his 3 way fridge on gas. Pulled the gas line off the jet and blew it out with air and all this gunk came out of the line. Do they put an additive in the gas for lubrication on engines?. Asked the guy at the servo what the difference was between auto lpg and portable lpg and he told me was just the price. Anybody else shed any light on this problem and what can be done to fix this.

Contamination in the tank would be a good bet.

Autogas and BBQ gas have different proportions of Butane and Propane I hear, don't know much else about it.

Lorne O,
I noticed this problem on a regulator hose several yearsago and put it down to something being spilled on or over the hose during a trip.
I too would be very interested to find out where the oily substance comes from as it could be a nuisance while on a trip using my 40lt Chescold.
Cheers,
Bros.

A bit of info here for you Bros. There has been a lot of discussion on the caravan forums about this but there seems to be no real answer.

after probs with my stove our local friendly camping store showed me the 'gunk' that clogs the jets by blowing it out. they claim that there are 3 reasons.
1) "dirty' gas, especially in W.A. (don't know what that meant)
2) turning gas off at bottle after use ( we always do that)
3) the overfilling of gas bottles

i have solved all the problems, especially as i now drive to S.A. to half-fill my bottles. you might think i'm stupid, but i wait until i have 2 empties!
clean jets
