Paul
We were out today doing a club activity and came across a Hilux stuck in a bog hole. The Lux was not there yesterday and after closer inspection we found it had been broken into stolen and dumped overnight.
We called the local police, left details and was also able to find a business card inside and eventually the owner was able to be contacted.
We dragged the car out of the hole and left it, expecting the owner or police to come and follow up............
On our way out to our lunch stop we pasted a couple of familes with kids in Toyota Crusiers ..........During lunch the police called saying they wanted us to take them to the lux.......One of the club members went back to the main road and picked them up.......
On aproaching the dumped car much to the amazement of our club member the tyres had been stripped and the tool box removed off the rear tray
The guys doing the stripping jaws dropped when the two cops stepped out of the car and caught them red handed........they had even stripped the side mirrors and knob off the gear shift lever........
THE WORST BIT IS THEY WERE DOING THIS IN FRONT OF THEIR KIDS......AND WE WONDER WHY KIDS ARE TENDING TO RUNNING A MUCK.
They apparently have had a number of charges against them pending.

Well done Paul and your fellow club members.
Let's hope the mongrels receive some 'real' punishment and not just a rap over the knuckles. Unfortunately the original thieves will get away with it.

Great result, Paul.
Totally agree with you about setting an example for kids. Maybe in this case the parents have inadvertently taught their kids why NOT to do the wrong thing.

Good story, sadly those kids will grow up believing that things are only wrong if you get caught.
Unfortunately there is no minimum competency level required to become a parent (and I use the term loosely for some).

Same theory different line of work.
Why is it you need a license to own a dog and not to have kids?
Unfortunately there will always be a shallow end in the gene pool...

Yep - Pretty sad - been going on for years.
When working for a few years in
Woomera (Mid to Late 90's) we understood that the average time to have your vehicle "started on" was less than 2 hours if left broken down any where up the Stuart Highway. So we always carried 20L of
water and at least two days "hard Rations" in the TOJO. That way if we broke down we stayed with the car and if alone got a message home for spouse (HF Rad Phone is so handy) to arrange the necessaries required for "rescue". This was for even a short trip to Roxby (85K away) or
Port Augusta (179K away) for shopping.
