Jeep Grand Cherokee WK experiences

Can any owners offer some feedback on the most recent Grand Cherokee model, the WK, and it's offroading ability? My in-laws back in the states are looking at buying one next year when Jeep finally release a CRD into the US lineup.
They want a diesel, and there's bugger-all diesels in the US market in the large 4WD category. How do the current model handle things like
suspension lifts - I read on an US website that some
suspension lifts screw the elextronic stability control up and it needs to be recalibrated.

The roadtests in some local magazines have been less than flattering especially in the
suspension and transmission cooling areas.
Might be fine for North America,the average US driver does not use the family 4wd in the same way aussies do : )
Generally
suspension lifts and electronic stabilising devices do not like each other
The diesel should be good,I think its the same as a Disco

Sounds like a guy shook a new vehicles to pieces with rock hard low profile tyres on endless corrugations.

Yep sounds it, maybe there were a few bolts that were not tighten properly to. Had that before on a bike where the frame bolts fell out!

I think the whole tyre pressure thing is greatly overrated as a whole. Of course it makes a big difference, but excusing major mechanical malfunction on it just doesn't hold
water. Maybe after 10 years and 300,000km's it may be valid, but on a new vehicle I think it's just an excuse.

Yep Im with ya on the tyre pressure thing it wouldn`t make a great deal of differance unless ya had 80 or so psi in em.
I think the biggest problem was the d@#khead than brought it, I mean fancy holding a steering wheel up with your knee for days, wouldn`t you get out a spanner and tighten what was probably a loose bolt? or the tailgate which was prob another bolt that had worked loose from the rough roads.
I think the jeep is better off without him lol

I just brought one and love the thing, std shocks lack abit of rebound on the faster rough stuff but other than that I like it.
Diesel motor is a ripper with plenty of stick. Havnt
had it long enough to tell ya much more but within the next few weeks I will have a better idea with plenty of off road trips planned.
There are plenty of mag write ups around with some mags nearly unable to fault it while some bag it, I`m just glad I tried one and made up my own mind not letting some journo pick for me or someone thats mates mate read an artical saying blar... blar. Like I told my oldman a few years back "Dont buy a 100 series cause I read an artical saying they blow big ends" or a nissan 3lt they blow up or a blar blar....ifs crack blar blar. He decided to stick to his 120y cause it was the best car ever built ;)
Anyways I will be doing short trips to start to make sure all is good until it get a few k`s up as i would do with any 4wd.
I will keep ya updated on how good or bad it is, from most reports on here its a heapa s@i#
