How due people with camper trailers handle packing up the canvas that is wet with dew or rain?
Cheers Mac

Same as Bob but don't bother with plastic. The
water doesn't seem to come through the canvass (15oz). Only really a problem when condensation is already in the camper but even then the bed dries really quick when opened up (unless its raining)

What bob said but never considered plastic on the mattress, we pack a bit of stuff in there before folding up such as a ladder and the kid's bunks and have never had a problem.

Hi Mac,
As long as canvas has been 'seasoned' it should not leak. Be careful with open windows or doors (left open to let the air out when packing up) and also condesation that will form on the underside of the canvas (as suggested). We have a tarp on the bed just in case but mainly to keep dirt that was on the floor off the bed when we fold up. Even if you have a week of rain and you pack up and setup every day it will be fine.
We always open the camper up when we get home to wash sheets and towls, hose off canvas (dust, dirt, bird / bat poo) air out and dry off the canvas before checking everything and packing up ready for the next trip.
Regards
David

Hi David
How are you finding your Aussie Swag?
Do you get ANY dust into the camper when travelling outback roads and bulldust.
Glen.

Hi Glen,
We just love the Aussie Swag. Were using it 2-3 weekends a month the first 6 months we had it as it was so easy to get home, hook up and go. Everything is packed (has a better stocked pantry than the house) so we just fill
water tank and pack the fridge. Even happier that they are 6 grand more expensive now than when we bought in 2004 but hardly anything has changed on them so resale should be excellent (not that we plan on selling within the next 5 years).
We have had small amounts of dust enter the Aussie Swag through the corner of the hinged top, right at the back. This was while tackling the many bulldust holes up in the Gulf last year. It was only minimial and never made its way around the inside of the camper - just within a few inches of the hinge.
Regards
David

Like everyone said, a sheet of plastic. We went to Spotlight and bought plastic mattress protectors for about $5.00 each with elasticised edges. They slip easily over the beds, and easy off again.

Same as the above...have used ours on 1,2 and 3 month trips...never used plastic...bed getting wet has never been a problem. As far as the canvas being wet, once set up again at the next
camp, it takes bugger all time to dry...esp...up north.
Cheers,
Mick.

Mac
you should try rolling a Tarp off a 45ft semi with 5ft drops each side in the rain in
Melbourne ,

Gday Doug
The way (some?) truckies handle their tarps is amazing - I just caught the end of some 'truckie olympics' on the south coast (NSW) about 10 years ago and they were tarping a semi in about the time I tarp a 6x4 trailer for a tip run, wish I'd seen the whole event......made me feel a little inadequate though!

my experience is that you usually get the increased humidity - wet clothes et al with dew and rain ... and that as someone else has said, it is the condensation on the inside that is the bigger worry.
If you can plan on
parking where the bulk of the canvas over the bed will catch the morning sun and dry out quicker (inside and out), the better you will be.
The plastic on the bed, does help too.
Cheers for now
Andrew.

My CT has a special canvas sheet which zippered in to the side wall above the bed and covers the whole bed (queen size matress)

As above but I am a plastic on the bed person. Got some remnants from a local canvas place, a light weight plastic canvas material (something like the stuff they use to make those large marquise), cut to size and elastic in the corners so it fits like a fitted sheet. Works great.
Kind regards
