Will my 3lt.diesel 01 Hilux tow a
Ranger xct camp/o/ matic with tinnie on top to the cape and back without a turbo? If not, which turbo would help? My hair is starting to go gray so it doesn't have to be too fast.

I would suggest investing in a quality difflock (if you haven’t got one already installed) instead. Given the age of the vehicle there is a good chance that your LSD is stuffed. As to the original question, I know of several less able rigs successfully making similar trip.
Cheers

Holden did the Cape with a couple of Adventra's - which means you can get there with a commodore.... if that makes you feel any better.
(Tongue in cheek but they did it.)

If my old 2.8D can make it non turbo, you'l be fine, my mate did it in his old 2.7D navara only problem was his bull bar spit due to the corrugations but good old farmer joe welded her back up again and still ok. As long as its
well serviced, and I would bleep off the toyota shockies for some good after market ones for the corrugations you'l have a great trip who's in a hurry anyway. Take care have fun and that hair dye will fix your graying problem lol. Regards Steve M

Off course it will..! Towing is not about speed and you wont need to worry about too much traffic when your cruising along.

Can't see you having any problems due to lack of speed, and power will only be an issue in sand and steep hills. Not much sand at the cape and what there is, is avoidable if you must. Only really steep section we came across is on the
Bloomfield track through to
Cooktown which saw our non turbo 4.2 Diesel Patrol in to low range. Our trailer is around 750kg mark
Have fun

There are sections of sand on the old telegraph track which are not avoidable (unless you avoid the old telegraph track), and we experienced a long section of 40ks coming into Musgrave from Lakefield where the dozer had made a sandpit. This was a slog in the Jackaroo with Campomatic behind and would be a real pain in a diesel.
The Jackaroo (auto) went up the
hill on the
Bloomfield track in high range with the 850kg trailer on - so much for the legendary torque of a diesel :)
There is no other steep stuff that we saw on the rest of our Cape trip.
