I have a 1999 HJZ105 (which has a different fuel
tank setup to the independent sibblings but I have had the same problem with the TD).
I know that the fuel fillers are quite an obnoxious piece of work in terms of making easy filling possible.
Perhaps you're not really filling it - I know that I can put 12 litres or more in after the first time that I get an air-block in the filler, which a bit of movement is "fixing".
Some bowsers are worse than others.

yeah been there done that, i had diesels for many years and the foaming that the diesel fuel produces does it, but in this car ( petrol ) when its full its full and the fuel gage reflects it for a few minits then tumbles down to 3/4

You haven't been using the fuel gauge as the tacho?
hehehehhehe
The exactly same thing happened with a Camry hire car I had a few years back. it was a 2003 V6 model, and I remember seeing something in the car reviews about it being a 'toyota thing'.

Hey that's interesting; we had same problem with 100 diesel - thought the subtank had a leak and no one had answers.
