Well the way I look a it,if it has any of these symptoms listed like leaky fuel pump, smoke ,sludge then a it should be fixed by going to the root cause.
Most of those problems would not occur with clean injectors and a
well serviced pump and regular oil/filter changes
The
bore glazing maybe unavoidable in earthmoving or stationary diesel engines but I cant see why a 4wd engine would glaze over.
It could happen, but why would you leave it idling for long periods

I have used it. The problem is you do not know if your engine has carbon / sludge build up unless you try it. Our engine had done 180,000 km (I did an engine conversion from a 2.8 to a 4.2TD so had an unknown engine from a wrecker) and when I ran this stuff through, the new cheap flushing oil turned an opaque blackish colour - didn't stain the fingers though. Probably minimal amounts of carbon within the engine but I was happy that it appeared to be fairly clean inside. I thinks this is testament to regular oil and filter changes with good quality gear. Since the flush with CEM, I have run the Prosyn Cruiser Oil for 25,000 km and have been very happy with it. Each change I chuck in some CEM as they suggest and then change the oil. So far so good.
I suppose I am saying above is not to expect piles of gunk to be expelled after using the product. It depends on how
well the engine has been cared for and how old it is.
Regards
David

Not sure if it is as effective as this CEM stuff, but on the fuel side of your engine including the cylinders, biodiesel also does this.

I could be wrong (wife says always), but I thought if you put 10 ltrs in and got 10 or so ltrs of oil out of the sump then there shouldnt be much gunk in the engine, other wise you would get a high reading on the dip stick.

We have used it on a 60 series diesel, removed massive amounts of sludge, and improved the performance significantly.
I have used it in a petrol V6 prior to an oil change, and it certainly made the oil really black. The new oil remained clean far longer than before the flushing.
Have never heard of it destroying an engine, unless some goose ran it for far too long. After all, it's a detergent - most oils these days have detergent in them already, just nowhere near as much as the CEM dose.
