G,day all
I am heading off to Pormpuraaw tomorrow and would be interested to know up to date road conditions. A report on what to expect to Musgrave and into Pormpuraaw itself would be greatly apprecitated.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Darren.

Drove through there on 20/7/06 about 5 days after some fairly heavy rain, road was OK just a lot of wet patches that had us driving from side to side to miss them.
Road crews where about 10km's out of Pormpuraaw so could be a fair way out of town by now. No trouble at all.
How ever if you decide to come out via Alice
Mitchell Nat
Park be aware that Kowanyang has a zero grog thingame going. We where camped beside the
Mitchell river when two vehicles with local representatives came through, stopped & read us the riot act like a lot of errant teenagers, Makes us wonder if we where in Australia or some other foreign country. Funny thing was a local passed us at about 3:00 pm & said he had travelled backwards & forwards 3-4 times between Pormpuraaw & Kowanyang. Guess who drove back over the river at 12:30am, same bloke & I wonder what he was carrying.
Any way all roads where easy going for a 4WD
Good Luck

Was thinking of checking out Pormpuraaw for a week or so of fishing in October. Are the councils
camping areas OK/safe to leave during the day. Did you fish at all?
Any info appreciated
Cheers

We found Pormpuraaw OK. We camped about 2 km to the South of town just past the old crocodile farm. Bit of traffic through but no problems.
As far as leaving the
camp I can't realy answer your query as we only stayed the on night.
Some of our part tried fishing but it was not the right time but a couple from the town caught a few. Croc's look
well fed if that's any sort of indication.
One bloke in our party caught a couple of big mud crabs.
National
Park ranger is a local was more than helpful and a couple of his mates took us to the
camp site. They had dropped a load of fire wood on the site that morning.
Good luck

Thanks....try tamnterry at hotmail dot com
Did you book ahead or just call in? Room for a camper trailer?
doesn't sound like too many visitors so the fishing might be OK...
Thanks again
