Duramax 6.6LTR diesel V8 (320hp & 520 lb ft) with economy of 20+ mpg Pulling around a full size Suburban. Has anybody looked into installing one of these in a GQ. I am after overall length, height etc of theses engines & also the allison gearbox, so I can start designing the relevant modifications. I realise they are big BUT I was planning on modifing the firewall back & making the transmission tunnel wider and higher to accomodate everything .
Thanks

If blokes like Brunswick and Linquip don't do it cause they are too big then I think you would be biting off more than you can chew. But hey who am I to speak, maybe you know more about modifying trucks than they do??? and if you do, I would like to see the end result as it has the goods (on paper) to be an outstanding combination.
Good luck. Trevor.

Just be sure to research which model of Duramax to use as the early ones had similar problems to the Jackaroo turbo diesel, (leaking injectors, oil dilution, broken engines etc). It is a collabaration GM/Isuzu design and they had lots of problems with the earlier ones.
Have a look at the Diesel Page for info.
Being an electronic injected motor the injectors are basically non serviceable and very expensive to replace similar to the engine in the effies.
AM General/GM re-engineered the last of the H1 Hummers to take the Duramax and Allison trans and then 12 months later ceased production of the civilian H1's.

You are talking LLY engine ?? (thats a 310hp) .. the LBZ is 360 or 440 with a few mods or more .. just depends what you want ...
It's like putting a 5.7 mercruiser in a dinghy !
why would you want to do that and not just get the Chevy or GMC ??
have fun
