One more sleep. We are packed & hitched for an early departure on the
Sorrento Ferry. First time driving across the Nullabor.Keep an eye out for the white 120 series Prado with explore oz wheel cover towing a Goldstream Camper. four weeks is not enough but some of us have to work! Heading for the
Esperance,
Albany area but want to see everything along the way! Any "must sees' or other advice from the experienced?
Cheers Mac

Be careful of animals after dark, and in the daytime in
places. Be prepared for random license checks around
Eucla, they've never missed me yet :) Fruit Fly inspectors can be a pain.....
But most importantly........
Take it easy and "enjoy the view".

Might be a bit late, but will keep a look out.
I have a Green and
Grey Explorer with the normal bit’s hanging off it; The UHF is normally on Ch40 when driving in the Bush

The
Ceduna Oyster bar next to the quarantine checkpoint. $6 per dozen for the 2nd best oysters (
Coffin Bay are the best)
Try to plan to stay at Fraser RAnge station (100km east of
Norseman) I heard lots about it a few months ago, but i never get to stay there so i am interest in hearing first hand.
Cheapest fuel on the NUllabour is
Mundrabilla follwed by
Eucla.
If you get a choice between
Eucla & Bordervillage, pick
Eucla. Quality is very similar but
Eucla is more realistically priced.
There is lots of
places to pull of the highway to
camp.
If you got 4 weeks try to take your time on the NUllabour and stop and enjoy the
places. WE also have to rush accross and have always wanted to take our time and go into
the caves, coast areas.
enjoy your trip.

You should be able to fill at
Ceduna (from memory) and
Mundrabilla, pretty
well anywhere else was around 30 cents higher (serious!)
Spoke to a guy at Head of the Bight who was coming the other way and he had just filled up with these discount vouchers given out by the roadhouses, giving 2 cent discount redeemable at all the roadhouses charging $1.70 plus.
Dont get sucked in! ask someone at
Port Augusta who has WA plates (thats what I did)

fully agree with you, if you fill up at the start either
ceduna or
Norseman depending on which way your going, youcan easily get to
Mundrabilla or
Eucla. Of course prices go up and down and vary so things may change.
Mundrabilla has a bit of reputation for the cheapest.
Eucla i was surprised in July this year was not much dearer, so it may have changed.
The one thing i did notice in July was the price in South Aust remained fairly consistant accross the state. I was paying almost the same price in PT
Augusta that i did in
Ceduna. In WA the price increases steadily the further away from
Perth you get.
I usually carry 60-80 ltr of diesel in jerrys and this little extra gets me ost of the way accross with just a small top up required at
Mundrabilla or
Eucla.

G'day there,
it's not just fruit fly ! When you go through the
quarantine station at
Eucla they will be looking for any fresh fruit or vegetables, any honey, any soil, any plants or any second hand fruit boxes. You can
cook up your vegies etc. Make sure you use all of these before you get to
Eucla as they can all carry
pests and diseases that can damage the environment in WA. If you make sure your car is fairly free of soil and grass etc that helps too. You'll be travelling through one of the most ecologically diverse and beautiful areas of the world. Enjoy !
You might want to try western australia quarantine and
Dundas 4WD on google for more tips. The WA Tourism Commision website is really good, as are the many brouchures you can get once you get into WA. There's too much good stuff down there to begin to talk about it !
Have a ball !

Don't miss the tree top walk in Wapole(west of
Albany round the coast). Before you get to
Albany there is Two People Bay. Go up the
lookout in
Albany then
the Gap, Frenchmans Bay and
Whaling Station. The Stirling and Prongerup Ranges should be still good for wild flowers.
Hey we took 3 weeks from Norsman to
Ceduna last year but then we are relying on people working and paying their taxes. Not quite I am self funded.
If you like to give me a bit of an idea what you like to see, tourtisty or nature, coast or inland, how long a days you want, if you like walking and that sort of stuff I give you a bit more of an idea so not to waste too much time while you are here.
After about 40 exchange students from all over we have touristed the SW WA a fair bit.
Hope that is of some help.
Neil

Go and have a look at the
Cliff views at many
park areas before
Eucla, don't get too close to the edge, the overhangs could break off and down you go 80 meters into the
water....or a rock .good
camping areas though, watch out for many oversize loads around the
Ravensthorpe area going to the new
mine.I'm sure you will enjoy the West and the Jarrah Forests and
Denmark is a lovely little town.

You should have a good time here it's a great place, plus there will be lots of room as most of us are heading East in the next week or so to watch the Eagles take the grand final :-)
It's a damn shame about those Victorian clubs :-))
