Hi Guys
Just wondering if any other ultimate camper owners have had a problem with a wheel falling off their camper ?
This happened to us some time ago, it got fixed by ultimate and we got fed some b.s excuse and told it was a one off !
I have heard some storys around the campfire of simmaler things happening to other ultimate campers?
Has anyone else heard of this ?

I got told it was bearing falure but it was pretty messy, they ended up replacing the whole swing arm assembly.

If it was bearing failure and it was run long enough to chew up the stub axle then that may explain why they just changed the "Swing Arm Assembly".
Bearing failures can happen to anybody anytime particularly if they have not been maintained.
Maybe some more info from you such as age, history and circumstances of what you were doing when the "Wheel Came Off" would help.
A few people on here have the Ultimate who will no doubt be able to be a bit more specific but as far as I know there has not been any post's about these sorts of issues with any of the commercially built trailers.

Michael, (is that REALLY your name????)
No, I haven't heard of it ever happening and I've taken my Ultimate to
Cape York (twice), another trip to the Gulf country and around the Top Road into NT, across the Simpson, The
Border Track etc etc.......over 100,000klm since we bought it in 1999 (and it was already one year old and had been around Australia with it's 1st owner).
With a name like "Mike Hunt", I smell a troll...........

Was there also a few that the structure delaminated due to a faulty batch of resin??
From reports they were 'bogged up' and sold off as second hand !!

I'm not sure whether they still do it (fairly sure they do), but the crew at the Ultimate used to set aside a full day for the hand-over of every new camper. On several occasions during that day's hand-over, they would reiterate the need to get into the habit of simply touching the hub EVERY time you pulled up for a pit-stop, lunch or whatever. It was also suggested you poke a finger/s through the wheel spokes and feel the brakes too.
Last time I was there they "got up me" cos I'd put the plastic hub covers from the Patrol onto the Ultimate. "How the bloody hell can you feel the temp of the hub with those stupid bloody things on there?" or words to that effect....hahahaha (I'm good mates with the crew down there, having been involved with them from before the 1st production model was sold.
Cheers

Hey Roachie
Someone is really trying to wind you up ,,,( wonder if Mike is " Big's " brother (( heheheehehehehe ))
By the way ,, I renewed/replaced and repacked my bearings on my TrakShak b4 I left ,,,,
Then everytime I stopped I just wandered past the wheels and waved the back of my hand near the wheel centers, freeling for heat,,
Don't take much to be " at ease " with things
Cheers Mate
Bucky

G'day Bucky,
The bearings should be quite easy to grab (heat wise) even after pulling-up after a long fast run. Likewise the leccy brakes should be cool unless you've just been braking a fair bit of course.
Cheers

Not sure if camper trailers need to be greased once in awhile but I know boat trailers do. If the hub is too hot to touch then you need to grease it up (that is what I was taught).
Did you ever grease them MH?

If your on the level and not consumed to many "round the

Trailer bearings shouldn't need any more maintenance than the ones on the 4wd, unless of course its been for a swim, Load levels are approx the same, so if the bearing cap is hot to touch it doesn't mean it only needs a bit of grease!! It probably needs a good looking at as the bearings could be on their way out.
How many people look at their 4wd bearings ( especially the back ) ??
Did 160,000k's on my Jackaroo and never looked at the front bearings ( but felt them when on a trip)
Most people assume the bearings need to be swimming in grease but they only need enough grease to lubricate the rollers. By packing the whole hub with grease serves no purpose as the SPARE grease can't find its way to the bearings. Bearing buddies as seen on boat trailers are different as they use a liquid ( most anyway ) to fully immerse the hub. The bearing buddies that use grease under pressure are used by people that believe by pressurising the hub it will keep out
water ( and are too lazy to inspect the bearings ) but although it usually works its no guarentee
