Just wondering if anyone has an update on the cape and conditions.
The next silly question is fortified wine is it port and the likes or does this inclued white wines as
well (uneducated beer lover).
thanks

Hi Guys - you need to explore this site a little more. ExplorOz has the only Australia wide Interactive Road Conditions Report. We are even working on several levels to get local state and federal authorities involved in assisting with keeping it updated. I'm happy to say our reports for
Cape York are very up to date. (I was there myself 3 weeks ago)
Its interactive so you can, when you return from your trip, leave feedback on the conditions you encounter.
(Especially valuable for crossings like Gunshot, Nolan's Brook, and
Pascoe River.)
The site even has facilities for you to post current photos of these
places. (more on that later).
cheers

Was up there a couple of weeks ago, the road from
Mossman to
cooktown is good,
cooktown to
Laura is not too bad, lauara to
coen is pretty good (can do 100kph in some sections it is that smooth but watch the dips.
Coen to Bramwell is hoghway like but watch the dips again.
Telegraph track is good The second crossing heading north is deep, the rest of the crossings are easy until you reach Nolans Brook which is deep again(over the bonnett of a 100 series)
Once you get back on the PDR there are plenty of corregations until you reach the ferry. From the ferry north the road is not too bad.
Heading south we took the PDR and from the ferry to Heathlands
Ranger Statiion the road is shocking and badly corregated in some sections and from then on it is not too bad.
LAura to
LAkeland the road is sh#thouse to put it kindly.
Have a good trip and make sure you stop at twin,
elliott and fruitbat falls

Gday 100 series,,,
I am interested that you said "the rest of the crossings are easy until you reach nolans brook"....
We found the exit up out of
gunshot creek heading north was quite challenging in June this year ,,, have they repaired the exit???... It was so badly washed away most were winching up it...

Forgot to ad we took the soft option and took the bypass track around gunshot as we thought it was too risky with the camper trailer in tow.
The entry from the southern side was washed away a fair bit but the exit on the northern side did not look too bad. But as I said I took the soft option, better to be safe then sorry.

Just take it easy and all will be OK. Go fast and you may
well come to grief. It is quite amazing how far you slide on corregations when you hit the skids, even into other vehicles coming the other way. I have seen it often.
Slow down please, or drive a 60 series shorty to get the full effect. A 100 series you won't feel a thing.

Yeh ! the mighty 60 rough riding, but unburstable. My '83 has just done 250,000K's fitted with aftermarket Turbo and doesn't have a oil leak in it. Diffs are interchangeable, doesn't strip the crownwheel when reversing up a
hill, has a solid front end with no mods to do like the 100, has SOLID bash plates for genuine off road work & is able to be worked on in the scrub. OH ! what a feeling. But I wouldn't mind a 100 Series T/D, but only if someone gave me one ! Geez! I'm gonna cop some flack over this.
