Hi forumites
Well after months of planning, selling houses and storing household items we are finally on the road. Just spent 2 weeks at pet friendly Sharp
Park,
Canungra to sort out our rig. We will be heading down to Copeton Waters for the campertailer.org national meet before heading south. We plan to work or way around Oz for the next few years. We plan to do relief caravan
park management as one of our jobs goals. Anyway for those interested I have created a web site that I will keep up to date as we go. qldbushpig.spaces.live.com
Wish us luck as we depart on the adventure of our lifetime.
Cheers

Jack & Linda
I wish you luck tinged with a bit of envy, but only for 12-15 months.
We have decided that our home goes on the market this time next year. When it is sold and settled, I become unemployed/retired, and we head off to follow you.
We have the fully kitted 100 series Td, plus a new 18' van, built to our specs.
We need until next year to finish off the dozens of unfinished projects on the house, plus our daughter is still at home with another year of uni to go.
I'll keep an eye on your website with interest to pick up any pointers from you.
Travel
well.
Cheers

Hi Jack, Linda & Terrie,
Congratulations and bon voyage! We're sure you will be starting one of the most interesting and enjoyable parts of your lives.
We did the same in April 2002 and are still 'on the road'. After the house sale and the trauma of selling/sorting/storing we too spent a few weeks 'getting organised' at the delightful caravan
park of our friends Lee & Pam, at Yarraman SE Qld. Since then we've covered much of the eastern, central & northern OZ as far as
Broome. Most of WA awaits us yet but for the moment we're having a look around Tassie for a few months - and very pleasant it is too!
Caravan
Park relief work can pop up at unexpected times/
places but it tends to be most in demand in the 'off season' for the particular region. Not many owners want to leave their
park in the peak times. So that means most opportunities in northern Oz will be in the hot summer months and vice verse in the south, etc. We don't mind, as we prefer to avoid the busy times (that's why we're in Tassie now!).
It helps if you can say you have some hands-on experience and at least one referee who can be phoned. Fortunately our friends at Yarraman CP gave us training and experience in the year before we headed-off. Have since done stints in
Thargomindah,
Cloncurry, Mt Isa in Qld and Banka Banka (via Tennant Ck) in the NT.
It's a wonderful life-style and allows me to run my little instrument business as we go along.
Best wishes. Look forward to reading of your progress.

I too am going on a trip like this soon. I am going to attempt to rent my house out while I work around australia. Making sure the house is all up to sratch and maintained before I go. Then im heading up to the cape for a few months and continue around and work where ever I go. Im an electrician so getting
well paid work in the mining industry will be a possibility.
I have a land cruiser troopy hi top camper and a tinnie. Also taking my mountain bike and surfboard. I cant wait!
I will most certianly be checking on your progress and looking at your website occasionally. And I wish you luck!
cheers
John.

Hi John
Met a fellow at
Canungra while we stayed there and he said that a friend of his earns $50 p/h as a trade assistant at Gove, so I would be heading there. Good luck to you

Qld_Bushpig,
Did you do the Caravan Management course at North Star Holiday
Park at Hastings Point, and if so, did you find it to be worthwhile or not.
I have considered doing it, but have found that there does not appear to be any agencies or web sites dedicated advertising vacancies, so I am wondering how does one go about finding the opportunities apart from driving into a
park and applying or sending out heaps of emails/snail mails. and then hoping for the best.

Hi Cruiser
Yes, we both did that course at North Star Resort and found that Ian the owner who runs the program is highly respected in the industry. The course has given us an overview of the intricocies of running a
park. We will try any type of work in parks to start and once we gain experience we hope to graduate to management. The training school often gets requests for releif staff from members of the industry. Ian will then send out resumes of graduates of his program and then interested owners contact prospective relief managers for further discussions.
I have done several seaches on SEEK and have found numerous jobs of various descriptions for caravan couples. Additionally once we complete various work at parks word of mouth is the main way owners recruit staff. Hope this helps. Keep an eye on our site as I will be posting our experiences as we go around.
Cheers Jack

Me and my missus are heading off probably in March for about 2 years. A few years ago we decided not to buy a house but it would be easier to rent. No children yet but i couldn't wait until i was retired to travel so we're going now.
We are both nurses and will have no trouble finding work in bush hospitals/clinics. The GQ still needs a few things and the CT is a work in progress.
The missus is beginning to get excited already.
Enjoy the trip Jack and Linda.
