Happy Campervaner
Hi everybody, I have just bought a 1983 Hiace Campervan and it is consuming 14L per 100km. Is this a normal?. It has the standard fit-out but has a bullbar and the engine is a 2L manual (3Y type).
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
thanking you in advance..... Happy Campervaner.

Hi Happy Camper
I'm assuming it's a petrol engine. We used to run a fleet of Hiace vans (dual fuel) and they consistently did 14 - 16 litres per 100kms. Mostly light loads.
Changed to Merc Vito Diesels and they did 8-9l/100kms.
We've just ordered two new diesel Hiaces - we'll see how they go.
Cheers
Julian

Hi there Julian, bit off the subject but have you ever had to replace the injectors in the vito, my mate had his done twice now luckily under warranty but was told there $1000 bucks each, $4000 for 4 of them, that would hert out of warranty. He's thinking of selling it due to this reason, great on fuel but boy thats big bucks if what the service blokes are telling him are true about the price of injectors. Regards Steve M

I have a Daihatsu Rocky with a 3Y petrol and it gets 11 - 13L/100k if driven carefully (HWY). 14L/100k is not over the top as they are not known for their economy.

I have a 1985 campervan. Went around OZ last year and it 10.5 on the open road and up to 13.5 per 100 km in the city. No bullbar, but solar panel on top. Hope this helps.

Henry

Oh, I forgot. I mainly travelled at 95-100km on my trip. It seemed the most economical speed. I remember, I had heavy headwinds (100km) at one stage and the consumption jumped to 13 per 100 km even on the open road.
