Just found out that the subsidy for purchase of Satphone has gone down.......bugga.
$1200.oo, but only if your residential address is outside coverage......
$900.oo if you are travelling, and also within the guidelines of the application.
Oh
well, serves me right for waiting.......might get $900.oo if lucky, and that is better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick!!!!
-and I have been told that the deadline has been extended until middle of next year....subject, of course, to funding.

Michael,
Bit confused here. Has the subsidy been discontinued or what.
Bought my sat phone this time last year with an 80% subsidy! Was cheaper than my CDMA phone, Stated that I would be travelling single for over 3 months, which
I did, and from a OHS point of view it was necessary. No problems and address
was not a problem.

Morning Mike,
Subsidy has not been discontinued but the amount of rebate/subsidy -call it what you will, has gone down.
I was looking at getting a satphone at the start of this year, although we will not be using it for a while.
The maximum rebate available from the government was $1500.oo.
Now the maximum is $900.oo if you are travelling, $1200.oo if you reside permanently in an area outside 'normal' telephone coverage.
I got this info from our local agent, and confirmation from Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts.
Depends what mood the Gov is in at the time I guess......
Cheers
Michael

Maybe if you can get the sat phone to have a baby, it will qualify for the $4000.00 babay bonus!
