The Honda 2oi starts and runs everyone's caravan air cons - numerous good reports here and on the carvaners forum. It delivers the boost of power required to start the air con when the most power is required. I don't have the Heron, but never heard a bad report with it running various brands of air cons.

Hi chips, is that the Honda EU2000...??? If so It's rated to 1600watts, your aircon seems to require 2200watts, perhaps the EU3000 would be the better option.

More than happy to stand corrected on any of the above info...

Blue - we were willing to buy the 3 kva or two 20is to run in tandem, but Honda agent assured us that on 2 kva was all that was needed as they give sufficient boost to start the air con.

Hi Motherhen... my only concern would be that the peak output of the gen is 2000watts, the peak draw of the AC is 2200watts... Should the gen fail and a warranty claim be submitted, would this be enough to have Honda say so sad too bad...???

Maybe Blue - but in all the time on the forums, haven't heard of it ever happening. To me thats a negligible risk factor.

The salesman when we bought ours, assured us it had the capacity to reach the required power (i think for a few seconds which is all that is needed). We also spoke to him about running it in a box fitted with electric fan for ventilation as other caravanners were doing. He said don't do it, and if anything went wrong, that would void the warranty. He didn't say it about using it for the air con - just that it was built to do the job.

Hi,
I have a Heron 2.2 and the Honda EU20i.

It runs my air-conditioner perfectly well, when running on full throttle. ..It can handle the startup required by the air-con (spike power @ 2200 watts), however, if I switch the Honda to "eco-throttle", it is unable to keep up with the air-conditioner compressor start up and goes into overload mode (ie it can not handle the peak power demand for the air-conditioner startup when its generator is at "idle", it tries to speed up, but not quick enough).

I suspect a Honda EU30 may have more low down power grunt to handle the "eco-throttle", but have not tried this. - The Honda EU30 is a much bigger and heavier unit.

If you are happy to run the EU20i at full throttle while air-conditioner is on, then you have a solution, but not one that could make it through the night (approx 4 hours from the Honda EU20 at full throttle).

I have not been able to work a solution to get my air-conditioner to run through the night on my EU20i, apart from waking up and refilling the fuel on the Honda.

Taking advantage for theomostat control on the Heron and eco-throttle on the Honda is my ultimate goal - I suspect some additional "inverter" spike battery booster may help the equation, but I cannot work this out:-(

GDayChips, I have just brought a Honda eu20i genny after much reserch and I can personally tell you it starts up and runs my Air Command roof top Air Cond very easy which is 3.1kv start up and it cuts back after start up ,turn off the eco throttle an presto,Cool Air also Heat on full.
I will not run mine at night as I am more considerate to others just cool the inside down.
Got a real good deal on mine $1995 plus $200 cashback so works out $1795 go for it (hurry) they just went up $65.Might be a few left free delivery australia wide.
