Anybody tell me what fuel consumptiuon they get from thier Landrover Discoverys?
My next door neighbour just bought a 1996 3.1 litre petrol Dicso and is getting only 5kms per litre.
I get better then that from my 6.5 litre V8 "Chevissan".
What's normal on these Discos?
Thanks, as always guys.

Bilbo.
I get between 9 to 10 L/100 kms on a trip.
(9.4 from
Goondiwindi to
Melbourne a couple of weeks ago)
12.5 around town and 12.7 towing from my Disco 3 diesel 2.7 auto.
Are you sure its a 3.1?

I bet it's the 3.9 V8 petrol.
No experience with these but 5k/lt sounds about right for these petrol guzzlers.

I have a 3.9 V8 Disco and average 18l / 100km town and highway traveling.
They are a bit on the thirsty side.

My mate just got a 1998 model 3.9L V8, gets 250km from $90 he said. Whatever that works out to be. Funny thing is, the diesels are exact opposite in that thay can use 10L or less which is better than most diesel 4x4's.

Hi Bilbo,
Sounds like it's a 3.9L V8, they can be real thirsty buggers if not spot on.
I would suggest that he takes it to someone who knows what he is doing and makes sure everything is spot on with tuning etc.
Jordan Rover Tech in
Welshpool come
well recommended but there are others in
Perth. Discovery Auto
Services is another with a good rep.
Neither is affiliated with any dealer.
JRT did all the work on my Range rovers, not cheap but
well worth the money for the results obtained. (up to 7.5 km/litre)
My TD5 (diesel) regularly returns between 9 & 11 Litres per 100km on all but heavy towing.
Cheers
Disco

I haven't looked under the bonnet, but it doesn't sound like V8. He assures me it's a 4 cylinder 3.1 petrol motor. I've only heard it driving away from his place next door.
Thanks for the replies but it's no use quoting TD diesel figures at me. This one is definitely a petrol engine.

if he assures you it's a 3.1 petrol motor then i assure you he's wrong, it's either a 3.9V8 or a 3.5V8 or the newer 4.0 V8 in the series 2 Disco, these are the only petrol engines fitted to Discos.
I suggest to have another look.
Baz.

Redback,
He works nightshift and it's difficult to catch him. I'll keep trying. I don't like knocking on his door,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I used to do shift work myself and I'd damn near kill anyone who woke me up!!
I'll keep in touch.
Thanks,
Bilbo

There was a 2l 4cyl petrol motor offered in European Discos at one stage but why would you want to bring one of those here?
Stephen.

Could be a private import. Local Discos in 1996 came only with a 3.9l V8 or a 2.5l 4cyl turbodiesel.

Ring Landrover australia and quote VIN number, they'll tell you straight away if they brought the vehicle into Australia.

Weel fellas, I managed to get a quick look under the bonnet. It is a V8 - a 3.9 litre V8. Though I must say, on the odd occasion that I've heard it pull away it doesn't sound like MY V8 does!!
From what's already been said, it appears that 5km/litre is about average and that 6.5 lm/litre can be acheived withh good tuning & a light foot.
Any other comments?
Bilbo
