Has anybody been through the Victorian High Country in the last few days, if so, are there many trees down, after this week of high winds?

Shaker,
It absolutley blew here last night (Stratford) and we're on the 'flat'. I have wondered the same thing as we're heading to Corryong via Benambra Monday morning - I've decided to throw the chainsaw in - just in case.

I suspect it's an absolute necessity! Last night (Sat/Sun) was pretty bad here on the coast too. I'd be taking the chainsaw and towing gear/winch to pull stuff off the road.

PS. You're not a radio ham, by any chance?

Mike,
Not a radio ham - unless you count a GME 4400 & .5 watt Handheld. :-)

Up on the
Mansfield western side Yesterday, and it was sure windy , however no trees down which I noted was quite usual for area.
Trees down stop our progress more than anything , and never leave home without chainsaw.
lot of small blown branches and twigs though - got one jammed into rear brake level on trail bike also , such that no brake. At least tracks were dry and it was only a small come off.

Looking forward to the trip report mate. Thanks to you and Moggs for getting the trip together. Don't forget to report the boggings, extractions and tyre relocations. Have got home tonight about 9.15 and got the tent erected in the garage to dry it out. Lots of wet gear, and dirty too.
Thanks again mate, and to Moggs too

You just never know. But, depending on your route, you may be one of the first through after the winds. A couple of years ago on a track north of Drago I had to clear five trees in about 10km after a bad storm the night before, luckily none them were very large.

There's a lot of dead trees in the high country at the moment waiting to come down in the next big storm. I shudder driving past some in big winds because you dont know when they are going to come down. Also the can fall and slide down a
hill like a spear.
