Nick,
The steering damper won't fix the problem, remove steering wheel and realign it.

Shaker, why shouldn't you re-align the steering wheel? Just curious.

Des

Because the steering box or rack should be centre e.g. haft left haft right..

If you have to move the steering wheel something is wrong, I would think.

I'm not a steering expert but that's what I think

Richard

Yeah I thought a allignment would fix but some one mentioned that a return to centre S/D would fix, just wondering why it would have?
Vehicle is having an alignment done this week so will see what happens.

Go see a truck aligment centre you will most likely need a Castor Kit fitted as I have been guarantee that it will correct it I am about to have my Patrol done with a Laser Alignment and Left side Castor Correction Kit.My all up cost is $340 the kit is round $140 I was told by the Owner he dose many of these an Cruisers are worse than Patrols He also explained everything to me>And yes I belive him as he recently fixed my 2 year old tandem axle caravan Which was scrubbing all 4 tyres Independent Suspension which the manufacture could not fix under warranty after many many attempts ,(Stuffed it completly)mine steering wheel also has to be held at 1 o clock Pain isent it.

Hi there Nick, rtc dampner will not fix the problem, due to the lift a wheel alighnment will be needed and then once that is done if wheel is still not straight then as mentioned above it will need to be removed then turned a spline or two then put back on again, if this is needed to be done then the person doing the wheel alighnment should do it. Had to get a wheel alighnment done on the old lux due to me adjusting the drag link which put the wheel off centre, they did that and wheel alighnment was fine so they pulled the steering wheel off put back on straight no problems what so ever. They will find either the alighnment is out or its just related to the lift and will require the steering wheel to be realighned no big drama. Hope you sort it out which i'm sure you will. What is needed is an adjustment to the lenght of the rod that joins the arm on the steering box to the tie rod. As you have lifted the body the steering box arm has pulled the steering wheel around a bit so the correct thing to do is lenghten the rod by adjusting one or other end. However I tried this on our 80 series but could not loosen either end clamp so as a last resort take off the steering wheel and rotate it to centre and hope that the splines allow it to be on centre. Good luck

What Ian said.

Fitting a RTC dampner (I have one) will not fix the "1 o'clock syndrome.

Fitting castor correction bushes will not fix it.

Getting a wheel alignment done will not fix it.

Only way is to re-align steering wheel OR lengthen the drag-link (I wish somebody would manufacture one, like they do for the panhard rods for various makes).

Cheers
