What grease do others use in 100 series wheel bearings? Manual says lithium based wheel bearing grease. Castrol HTB is clay based , Castrol APXT is lithium based but doesnt state ok for bearings.
Thanks in advance

Castrol HTB. I believe that all greases are clay basd. Lithium is one flavour.

You could try the local Toyota dealer.

Price some name brand HTB Bearing grease at the local auto accessories first so you have a base line to work from. You may be pleasantly suprised by the price from Toyota.

Don't use HTB in Landcruiser wheel bearings, the hubs don't get hot enough to melt the grease unless you drive like a loony and absolutely hammer the brakes.
Most drivers will suffer from premature bearing wear if it is used. Landcruiser wheel bearings should last the life of the vehicle unless subject to poor maintenance, wrong grease or water/dirt ingress.
I've used Castrol APX for the last 20 years with zero problems.

Perhpas they should last that long but I just had my LC100 in for its 120,000km service at a major Adelaide Toyota dealer who rang me to say the rear bearings had to be replaced. As for your checklist, its regularly been serviced at Toyota dealers and I've brought it to their attention if we've done water crossings. Guess I should have asked for the old ones but didn't think about it till later.

Cheers.

Have a look at the Castrol website, there is some good info on this grease. It's ideal for wheel bearings. Prefer not to use HTB grease.

Interesting.

I've used Castrol HTB for 20 years. They make it so it doesn't melt in high temp environment, but people here suggests that it would be good if the grease melted when hot. Can't say I've had a problem - its all sitting in the bearings when I regrease them.

Might use the other stuff next time.
