Hi All We are in Coral Bay WA with a leaking radiator, we had RAC out who stated that the O ring has gone on the right hand bottom and to fix it, it would have to be sent to Perth for repairs and clean out ect He said that it would probably cost as much to do that as to get a new radiator sent straight up which would be a two day turnaround. My query is (me being a bit of a sceptic in these things) does that sound right and would it be possible to sell the old one back in Perth, the old one is in very good condition (except the O ring of course).

Your input would be appreciated

Personally i would go for the new radiator as you do not really know what the condition of the core is till the tank is removed, I did one a few months ago, although not off a patrol, looked brand new and looked like it was just the seal leaking but when the tank was removed the core had corroded from the inside, one new radiator needed, so if you send it to perth they may find similar problem and you have wasted money and time sending it.

Could you sell the old one in Perth, well probably, but you wouldn’t get F**k all for it

If the BP servo has a product called Bars leaks buy it and pore it in the tank, once it’s done it’s thing 15minutes or so once the car’s at operating temp, then take a trip up to Exmouth or down to Carnarvon to get it repaired.

Stating the obvious hear but take ample water to top the system up if need be

Cheers.

How long do you want to be mucking around, possibly on the side of the road with your "fixed" radiator ? Get a new one installed and forget the worry.

I second Exploder's advise about Bar's Leak.

My 80 series sprung a radiator leak at Kalbarri (noticed green fluid pooling under the vehicle, it was not a small leak) and thru in a can of Bar's Leak. It fixed the problem right up and I only had it repaired a few months later back in Perth. Turned out to be a pin prick hole on a few cores, had them sealed closed and put it back in after pressure testing.

Thanks to you all for your responses, we are getting a heavy duty radiator sent up by freight tonight, it will arrive in the morning and the RAC guy here will install it for us, (what a drama it was trying to organise that) however our only hope now is that they send the right one and it fits. We will be leaving here on Wednesday morning headed for Karajini National Park and then heading back to Perth in a week to ten days, not sure on that score. (gee retirement is good).

Thanks again

Cheers
