For that price it would want to include all the attachments like alternator, starter motor, air con, and probably radiator etc. Clutch? (Condition of same?). What proof do you have that it's only done 80,000? I would also want to see/hear it running......so if the bloke has already taken it out of the vehicle, you may have a case for getting a reduced price.

I think that you can pick up a similar motor via Linquip or Brunswick for a bit less (like $6K).

Cheers

Beat me by thaaaaaaaaaaaat much! Kadina Kid (LOL)

Hun

If he has replaced a Turbo Diesel 4.2 with a Gen3/8 then I would hypothesise that the subject owner/seller has spent 80,000Kms flogging the guts out of the 4.2 trying to get it to perform like a Gen3/8.

Check to see if he has the Gen 3/8 'stroked' so that it pumps out 500HP.

Why would you do a Gen 3 over a 6.5 Chevy one is built for Pro-Formance car’s the other is for pulling a 4WD?

One makes peak toque and power all below 3000RPM
The other makes it somewhere between 4500-6000RPM

One burns oil and slaps pistons the other doesn’t.

And I sure as hell wouldn’t want to be paying to feed the 350 when it’s used for 4Wding, My 4ltr V6 is bad enoughf when made to work in low range.

I know which one I would go for in a 4WD

I was getting told mine was worth 5 - 51/2 grand with nearly 200000 km about 12 - 18 months ago. But as Roachie said, most of the V8 conversion guys sell them too, so worth phoneing them to confirm prices.

If it's a factory 4.2 Turbo (not intercooled) it has done stuff all work for the age of the engine. A lot of owners clock up big K's in these things so make sure the K's can be proven with log books.

Cheers, Trevor.

He is dreaming

I would give him 3-4000 for it Top’s.

There was a Ford GT BOSS 290 engine with 50,000k on it for sale for $10,000 the car was hit side on so no damage to engine. That’s a hand built motor that can’t be brought, Ford won’t sell you one unless they are fitting it into your GT.

80,000? Barely run in.. Well worth the $. You will get 2x the amount of klms of a 3.0 could dream of even of you dont look after it.

Wreckers were charging $6k for one with 180,000 on it...

That could be an expensive one if it was a Yota boat anchor. Agree with the barely run in though for a Nissan motor. If the guy just put on a better exhaust and a tuneup, be a lot cheaper than a petrol motor to run and fit up.

Gday,

Well I had a guy buy a 13000 km 4.2td Tray back patrol from me and he was putting in a Chevy Big Block TD. He was going to be given 6000 dollar trade for the motor.

Now this was ONLY 13000 ks.............so 80000 is a bit much for the asking price in my humble opinion

Cheers
Geoff
