Guys and Gals,

just curious about insurance cost. Originally we were thinking to get a decent sice caravan/off road caravan but the lack of models which we liked and models which would go offroad (the one which would we didn't like .. e.g. Bushtracker ..) and
the decision that we did not want to trade the boat for a dinghy (well .. we ended up trading the boat for a new one anyway :)) we have finally purchased a slide-on for the truck allowing us to still tow our new boat. Now I am interested to learn what you guys pay for insurance on your vehicles, contents, campers or caravans and boats. This is pure curiosity since I did not do much research because I had the chance through the mobilehome club (truck + slide-on qualifies as mobile home) to get a great deal .. well at least I think it is a great deal..
so I am curious what you guys pay for your insurances ..

I had a quote from Shannons on my truck and it was 1680panno fully comprehensive (agreed value of $100.000.00)

Now my mobile home insurance includes the value of the camper and contents and all the mods of the truck with an agreed value of $180.000.00. Cost is $1390.00 fully comprehensive on vehicle (including glass etc..) including camper and all fixed contents + non fixed content up to $2000 ... additional contebt at 1% of agreed value. Everything is covered .. transport, recovery .. you name it.

So let me know what your insurance cost is :

thanks

Too many variables to be meaningful.

Overall value of vehicle
Overall cost of included accessories.
Vehicle storage location
Age of vehicle
Present insurance rating(?)

Another "What is the best..." question.
There is no "best", only what suits you, at a cost that you are happy with.

I DID NOT ASK what is the BEST !!!
I asked for some examples ...
If you don't want to give one .. no problem .. but why post at all ??

I will correct myself and say

Another "What is the best..." type of question (ie. meaningless quetion)

Still leaves the question of how your life is going to be changed by knowing what everyone else is paying, given that there is no one other than you with your exact set of circumstances (variables from the list above...).

various possibilities ..
the scenarios are not that different .. agreed value, no claim bonus, commercial or non commercial .. there are only a few paramteres for general comparison before you go in the details .. I might get another insurer name as suggested above .. I might find out that it's not a good deal and I might look further ...
you are just simply preoccupied with an opinion and should not answer such questions ... you only learn when you ask or listen .. so do me a favour and stuff up your own threads..
Have a nice day

.........All I did was point out the difficulties of getting any meaningful result. Two ppl above agreed... at least one other below has alluded to the same result, not to mention your input about being in a different position to everyone else because you have an import.

But it is all about us "do(ing) ME a favour and stuff up your own threads". Absolutely no need to be offensive about it. Clearly the "me" it is all about is the one that needs an attitude adjustment.

gmd,

I am a pretty long term reader of this forum and I have seen you come across on plenty of posts as a pompous git.

How can you expect meaningful answers to such a general insurance question??? Even if is IS a general discussion question, why jump down Gary's throat when he only pointed how many variables are involved?

Sorry but I am with Gary on this one. Seems you are quite ready with the condescending put down about attitude when it suits you or when YOU think somebody has asked a dumb question!

have a nice day!

G'Day GMD,

Not sure who does your insurance but there is an insurance rep popular with the mobile home set that offers great deals, certainly cheaper than most other good insurance policies, suggest you look at the Yahoo group dedicated to slide-on campers and ask around
Hope this helps

I am happy with my deal .. it's not about getting cheaper ..
was just curious what a caravan etc would have cost me
without ringing a lot of places .. some insurance companies
only insure up to 50K for caravans ..
anyway .. never mind ..

More to the point trying to clarify your position, for the benefit of us mere mortals who are not able to read you mind every five seconds.

I have a feeling there may be a name added to other peoples "Ignore" list.

By all means report this thread if you wish, or would you prefer me to?

I've got my vehicle insured for over 60k and it cost me less than $700.
That's with QBE and I've already written off one vehicle this year.

Looking for adventure.
In whatever comes our way.

Do they still like you ? :)) .. lol
Yeah vehicles isn't really that bad when your in main stream .. I cannot go with the main insurers because they do not want to know about imports... it's not even a high priced vehicle but the fact that it is an import makes it more difficult.
I was more after camper/caravan/boat insurances rather than vehicles or at least some package deals .. don't know if they exist .. I only know that SGIO (I have three vehicles with them) don't want to know any caravans above 50K$ ...

Wesfarmers, 2004 100 series TD GXL, accessories $7000, no excess, covered anywhere legally allowed to go,
$790 paid annually.
Have been with them quite a few years now after SGIO and CU, and found them to be A1, genuine personal service, pretty well everything is handled locally, I think they are the only ones that do that now.

Thanks .. havn't had Wesfarmers on my list .. good to know ..

I am waiting on a quote for the boat from CGU .. we are with
them since 15 years on our content insurance and just recently
had a few claims .. one storm damaged fence and heaps of electricals
from a lightning strike as well as a bore pump motor .. very genuine ..
no problems and I thought I give them a try for the boat ..

you get a good deal I think there .. I can not say how SGIO performs
since I never had a claim (sorry a couple of windscreens) and do not
run the other cars on fully comprehensive anymore .. so I never really thought about it to compare ..

With the truck now its different.. I guess with the camper as a mobile home
I am offered a good deal for the lot ..

Just read in 4WD montly again about theft .. well pretty shallow article but it makes you think when you read 85.000 vehicles stolen in 2004 ... but few caravans .. more motorhomes and obviously cars ...

I am more worried about a "test drive" when your run an exotic car but then again that might not be a problem afterall because it is so recognicable ..

I guess in the wrong places that doesn't matter anyway .. they all burn well :)) ..

thanks for posting

I don't understand that comment.
I can't be bothered to ring several insurance companies ...
I do my work by email and occasionally ask some questions
on several forums or deal with my professional contacts on
a word of mouth basis.

Why can't you people just stick to the subject and if you do not have anything to contribute just bite your tounge and keep your fingers away from the keyboard.
Is it that hard?

And many people here say the Yanks are arrogant or ignorant ... well they have a lot better culture on forums like this than what I have found here ...

Have a nice day

"...I can't be bothered to ring several insurance companies ..."

You just expect others to phone, or rummage through their own paperwork for you....

You do come across as a pretty lazy person.

Try Googling "motor vehicle insurance companies" and lo and behold you can spend YOUR time doing YOUR research (via email) instead of bothering anyone else. Then you will have EXACTLY the information you want.

"I can't be bothered to ring several insurance companies ..."

Its your money!
Write an email and CC it to all the companies, or I'll do it for you and keep half the difference!
With what you have insured there, a couple of phone calls could save you 3 or 4 hundred bucks.
Like fuel, paying more isnt a guarantee of getting something better.
I have to say that I laugh when I hear someone complain about fuel price, then say they cant be bothered shopping around!

fisho64,

I did ring and contacted a few .. they all don't want to know about imports
Shannon's was ok and when I got the quote from Lumley (via the club) I
was happy with the amount .. I was just wondering about caravans not so much
about my package deals and don't feel like ring insurance companies with hypothetical questions I have better things to do ..

And to all these low lives here not reading properly or making wrong assumptions .. there is a difference between lazy and efficient ...

A Sahara with a decent Caravan and some equipment is more ... you just show what a sad character you are .. I really feel sorry

thanks for posting fisho64
