Ext, I felt the line ran sort of Cairns-Nhulumbuy.If so, maybe a point N of Normanton could be close. See you there then, but earlier could be good.

Yeah, those total eclipses sure beat those partial ones.
I went to the total one over Ceduna in 2002 - was pretty cool!!

I'll be there in 2012.

Looking for adventure.
In whatever comes our way.

We were in the pathway of the 2002 Eclipse and camped on the Gibber Plain near Mt Hopeless, SA

2012? A lot of dust will blow across the Simpson by then.

Its one day at a time for me...lol

2012! some of us may be dust ourselves by then [shock] :-)

Wow, what a long time away to plan for just one day. With an average of 7.7 clear days in November at Cairns, i wouldn't hold up too much hope for a perfect day :-)

I will be there if:

- a better offer doesn't come along
- the weather is good
- someone reminds me

G'day Willem,
I wasn't very far from you that day. I took a small tour group and we watched from about 10k's north of Tent Hill.
Here is a page from a journal with some good photos ( click the >'s right & left for more )
Eclipse tour

Willem did you get any rain down your way lately?
Cheers, Mike

Hi Mike

10mm of rain this month. It is going to be a poor wheat harvest this year.

Total rain for the year so far is only 189mm

Its as dry as a Camel's fart.

Cheers

I didn't realise how crowded it was out there that day.

We camped at Monte Colina Bore and viewd the eclipse from a spot on the pipeline (don't tell anyone we were there will you). We got a fair bit of dust through the Trak Shak that day too.

I spoke to someone at Mt Hopless on the UHF during the early stages of the eclipse. Could that have been you Willem?

G'day Duncs

No wasn't me. We were looking for shelter hiding behind the G60 to stay out of the wind. It did calm down after dark tho. Where we were camped was a moonscape scene. A couple of km to the east(through the looking glass) we could see a gathering of people from a bus but they disappeared after dark and we had the place to ourselves. We were amazed to find that the only livingthings out there were colonies of ants with no visible food for them. Maybe they ate dust or gibber.

Cheers

Jeff,
I don't think I have planned a trip this far in advance. I will be there and this one I think will be an early morning eclipse. and yes u are right, Darwin will also get a peek.

This time I want to be somewhere with a great view. Possibly some ruins somewhere but I am sure I will be doing a reccy in the next few years as I have not been to the tip as yet and am hanging to do the gulf as well. Who knows I may even be doing photographic tag along tours by then.
I wake up every morning looking forward to what adventures may unfold.
Maybe see you there for the reccy trip.

I was inbetween Cameron corner and Fort Grey for the 02 eclipse. We met the NASA crew at Cameron Corner and Fred Espanak (Mr Eclipse) They viewed it from the station just south of the corner. Brilliant weather although a dust storm was threatening at lunch time so dust storm beverages were in order. :) We camped at Fort Grey and also met the Australian Geographic photographer who quickly snapped a couple of pics of us.
Anyway the dust settled and here is a link to one of the many pics taken.

I can wait for the one in 2038. Just hope I'm still around to see it although the next day I probably won't remember it. LOL

The trouble with you generation X people is that you have no respect for your elders.
Nudie and I will both still be around which is more than I can say for you what with the recless self abuse that you younguns keep subjecting yourselves to.
Still seeing you on Tuesday?
