Re weather........ was talking via
HF radio last weekend to a couple of groups in the Simpson - area - very hot and dusty due to strong winds at that time (as mentioned -above - mid to high thirties already) - sounded quite a pain - they were hanging out to get to Dalhousie for a swim.

See post 38053 below - hot, too windy and too dusty about 800k south in the Flinders..... then again, you might strike it lovely ! That's the bush.

Hi Coyote. I did the crossing from West to east in the last week of August. The Ood and
Birdsville Tracks are in excellent condition - best dirt road I've ever seen. The WAA and French lines are easy to say the least. Shouldn't have any problems. Big Red from the east would also be relatively easy (depending on what the tourists from the races have done to it).
The western side of the SImpson is very green with plenty off wild flowers out. Enjoy mate.

Hi Coyote,
Today started cool and overcast and has warmed up to low 30's and getting muggy. Still overcast and threatening. Rain is falling through
Erldunda, Deep
Well and Santa Teresa (that is a band South of Alice). Some designer spots this morning at Mt Dare but nothing to register. Rain forecast in
the desert for tomorrow and Friday but doesn'rt appear to amount to much. Weather front to follow on the weekend.
The desert sand has been getting softer and consequently harder with strong winds and increasing ambient temperature. With a bit of rain it should bring it back to par again.
Plenty of mossies still at Dalhousie but
water nice.
Enjoy
the desert, Pat and I will be out there next week taking friends across.
Cheers

Hi Ian and Pat. We met you last week at Mt Dare after our hot but fantastic Simpson crossing. Thanks for all your insights and we will be following your fundraising trip next year. Cheers, Chris and Lindsay.

Now tell me Coyote......................
You were going that way anyway. What geater insight has been achieved by knowing what the
Birdsville Highway is like or what the temperatures may be.
Isn't it more of an adventure if you go and find out for yourself. I mean, if you know all the answers what adventure is left?
Just a thought.

Fair cop, but forwarned is forarmed. so to speak.. not to mention SWMBO is having a wardrobe dilema.. I have aksed that she limit the wardrobe to one bag and a jacket, so ther ie now dilema over which jacket.. see where I'm coming from??? All fun though..

Hey Coyote
In
Birdsville week b4 races, this year !!
Road conditions from
Walkers Crossing turn off to
Birdsville was like a " freeway ".
From the Crossing turn off down, I cannot help you.
Simpson is dry,, but should be OK ! ( sand at big Red was really soft ) ,,,,
Just remember 15-18 psi in tyres and take your time, you will be Fine !
If it rains while you are in the Simpson, the Delta section ,,1/2 way between Dalhousie and
Purni Bore,, will be like it was last year ,, " Good Fun "
( see pic in my profile )
Cheers
Bucky

We got back from our Simpson crossing today. We did it last week and it was awesome but very hot!!! We are so in love with
the desert that we intend to go back but more likely in Winter. It was too hot to stop and 'smell the roses' but the nights were fantastic.Cheers.
