I have recently purchased the 06 model Campomatic
Ranger XTC with the boat loader option.
Not happy at all with the boat loader, it is all out of square, the gas struts seem to fight against each other. Very poor engineering.
Also all of my locks were different, have different keys and different locks all over the place....
The jockey wheel seems to be a useless item also, looks like it is an inflatable item, but has no valve.
Other than just a few dramas, I feel it is a top unit and very
well constructed, this however I will find out for myself next year when we head off for 4 months up north into NT and then over to the Kimberly's.
I was wondering if many others on this
forum owned Campomatics, if they were happy with them and if there were any common problems or things that may be handy to know about... Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
If there such a thing as a Campomatic Club in Qld, I think KK have get togethers... It would be good to do a few weekend trips with other Campomatics in toe.
Look forward to reading some of your feedback
Regards
Glenn

Hi Glen
Try the Yahoo campertrailers group. I think autos.groups.yahoo.com/groups/campertrailers as someone ther might be able to help.
Brother has an older campomatic (we have Aussie Swag) and his only problem has arisen lately--- trying to get sense out of the new owners. Could not even tell him the shocker needed for his 8 year old model.

I'll second that. I have a 1998 model and it's built like the proverbial brick outhouse. Wanted to know how to raise the spare wheel arm off to ease the squeal a bit, and rang the new owners who were not interested in the slightest. Finished up ringing the previous owner who gratiously told me what I needed to know.
Mine has Koni shockers.
Just came back from the Cape trip and the old girl just laughed at everything - nothing broke, it sat perfectly on the road, and just laughed at all the corrugations.
The new owners are the Trak Shak mob I think. Next show I go to they will get a gobful from me, hopefully all you other Campo owners will do the same. Maybe they'll wake up a bit. After all, at $36000 odd for the new ones, they are pocketing a few bob profit and ought to be more helpful.

Glenn, I'm not sure that info from other Campomatic owners will help unless they also have quite new units. I believe Campomatics are now made by a different company.
They used to be based at Yatala between
Brisbane and
Gold Coast. We visited their factory about 18 months ago when short listing for our CT purchase. They seemed to be a business in trouble (not commenting on the product here). I think (but not certain) the owner had recently had a stroke. His wife was trying to run the business, but not
well. My impression was the the factory was poorly organised and innefficient. Workers were a bit aimless etc.
I think the business (name, designs etc) was sold. In any case they are now built in a different factory in SA.
My impression when we looked at them was they were a good CT with many good features. We did not short list themthough, as I was not comfortable with the business at the time and was not prepared to pay them a deposit and risk losing it if they folded.
In any case, from your description, you should demand satisfactory responses and action from the company, particularly on the boat loader, which doesn't sound right.

I think the company is now owned and operated by someone in SA, so no use comparing with how
well they were made in the past (by previous owners near
Brisbane), I think they might now be assembled in Australia to a price, but I heard that a lot of the manufacturing is done in China and imported. We also did not short list them. Decided to go with the fair dinkum Aussie product, the Aussie Swag. Very pleased with it, very solidly build and didn't miss a beat on this year's trip from
Brisbane to
Perth and back via some very rough and remote desert tracks.

G'day arowanaman, I have a Campomatic (older version) and have had no problems at all. To my knowledge there isn't a Campomatic Club in Qld but there is a Camper Trailer Group (of which I am a member) in SE Qld that has a variety of Trailers. We usually have a trip away about every 6 weeks. Their web site is www campertrailers org. Good bunch of people and everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun. If you are interested give me an Email off line.

They have probably done you a favour if it is a non-pneumatic jockey wheel.

It would seem that I have coped a bit of flack 'offline' today for sharing my experience.
I did express that I had a few dramas with my camper that was purchased as a brand new item and feel that my comments were not harsh in any way. A little bit of constructive criticism is good for any Company.
My post was not all about complaints, I did PRAISE the overall quality and contstruction of the Camper.
CAMPERMATIC have attended to my problems, a new boat loader is on the way and all the locks/keys have been replaced. They do have a warranty outlet not far from me, so all issues have been handled locally for me and the warranty outlet was more than professional. The guy knows the campers inside & out.
As for the jockey wheel, it did have a valve, it would appear that the tyre was that flat when it arrived the valve had somehow gone internal.
It is just lijke buying a new car, every now and then you have a few little dramas. It is good to see that Campermatic have attended to my warranty concerns and without and excuses... I praise them for the way in which they have hanlded my concerns to date.
Regards
Glenn

Good news Glenn. Bet it would have been a lot more difficult if you had not aired the issue here. Not a comment on Campomatic, just on businesses in general.
All's
well that ends
well.
It would be interesting however, for Campomatic to confirm or deny the 'partially built in China matter that has been raised here. It wouldn't necessarily mean there is a quality issue, a lot of good stuff comes out of China these days, but most of us would naturally assume that things like CTs are pretty much all Aussie made.
