Ok, so I'm about to be humiliated yet again. Just got a 'virus' alarm, related to thread 455061.
. David, Where are you when we need you?
(Gramps, Footy, Willem :get stuffed. Just because I'm a sloeer learner, doesn't mean [necessarily] that I should burn at the hard drive. JH.

Just take the hard drive out of the computer and hit it with a sledgehammer to tenderise it a bit LOL.

Seriously, it would not have been related to this site, but may have been related to one of the background programs your computer has running. If you have recieved an alert then the risk from the virus is minimal (has been caught in time). It is the ones that you don't see that cause the problems.

I would suggest the usual Spybot Search and Destroy, Adaware SE personal, and (your) antivirus scan, ideally in "safe" mode (when options come up, select "with networking"). The combination of these three are pretty effective at getting rid of any nasties from the net.

At some stage consider dumping IE and going with Mozilla Firefox (very easy conversion and very similar to use in its most basic form). Another useful addition is Zonelabs ZoneAlarm firewall (minimal training time required, easy to use)

Thanks Gary. Once I've fallen on it with the said hammer, I'll pass the gunk on to the One Who Knows. Man, our link has suffered so badly of late.Maybe I shouldn't have looked at those Titty Toyo sites implied by Ms Lucy. Sheesh.

Agree - use AVGfree. Ditch using Spybot - this has been NBG for years. Use Ewido instead from the same site as the AVG link above.

No mate, just that you blokes are so schmiked up, I can't imagine that a virus threat would even cause a break in step.

And thanks for the advice offered by some.

mate a good dose of antibiotics will generally clear up these viruses but you gotta stay away from known places of pick up otherwise you might have to go to a "special " clinic for treatment
