I have a Novemebr 2005 Hilux 4WD Diesel Space Cab Ute. It has a 2000mm long drop sided steel tray. I also have a Trayon slide on camper - empty weight 365 kg. With two people and their gear on board and the Trayon loaded for camping (including 80 litres of water) the additional weight over a single person on board is 660kg. Under this load the rear springs are flat or even slightly inverted. Options to overcome the problem include air bags or higher load capacity springs fitted to the rear axle. Suggestions on best options from experienced operators most welcome.

I've fitted Firestone airbags to my 05 'Lux. Makes an enormous difference when fully loaded.

My estimate of load when on extended trips is around 900 KG, including passengers, LRT and ball weight of CT. Rated load capacity for the vehicle is 915 KG, so I am just about there. Might even go a touch over for a couple of days when we add the new supplies of beer, wine, etc. But drops, as we use fuel, water, beer etc.

When fully loaded I generally have about 35PSI in the bags, which keeps the vehicle about level. Drop to about 10 PSI when not loaded between trips.
The good thing with the airbags is that you can adjust them depending on load and it's distribution.

Bugger, just remembered that my weight calculation was before I added the boat. That adds about 150KG in total. Haven't carried a 'full load' with the boat so far (longest trip with it has been just a week). Guess I'll have to make a few compromises when the time comes.

pip011,
It's a common complaint with the new Hilux,
We have fitted several with the black polyair bellows, they work great and are rated for 2 tonne so you should'nt have a problem.

problem solved,, put in Poly Air Bags,,( $310-$330 )

my 2003 Navara (3.0lt TD) duel cab is the same. 600+ kg's in the back and she is on the bump stops, and the nose is looking to heaven,
It seem that our Asian neighbours cannot measure 1000 kg's ..

Wish Aussie Dealers would option spring packs ,, you know ,, soft ride, load carrying ride ,, or just put a dial in the cabin that would do it

Cheers
Bucky
