during the next 5 or 6 weeks most of the remaining pine trees will be thinned and/or cleared from the stakehill road area - so to all those who frequent the area be aware that log trucks and other machinery will be using the tracks + the main roads and we don't need any reports to the media about accidents etc. all this is for the freeway extension and new housing developments - and it was once such a nice area to play in. rgds
Slow down and relax......

Hi Maverick,
I'm just old enough to remember when a trip on the old Mandurah Rd was almost an expedition, when the road to Safety Bay was a limestone surface and the whole area was still vegetated with the natural vegetation (ie; bush).
At that time the area now known as Port Kennedy was "Long Point" and the only access was sand tracks through the old bombing/artillery range.
This was all before the days of SUV's, RV's and suchlike fancy things.

An old Vanguard ute with a canopy was the way to go.
Pile all the kids(4 or5), the fishing gear and the cardboard box with the thermos and the sandwiches into the back, Mum and Grandpa squeezed into the passenger seat and with Dad at the wheel away we went.

Haven't things changed??

Still that's progress for you.

Cheers

I remember 4WD'ing in the old 2A Landy down to Warnbro Sound near Safety Bay and staying in a corrugated iron squatters shack on the beach. It had an old carpet laid straight on the sand for a floor. Would have been in the early 70's. Never forget dad dragging a sharkthey'd caught up the beach behind a beach-buggy and him making me fish and chips with cornflake batter and garlic salt. Still think it was one of the best meals I've ever had. Magic.

All 'MacMansions' and a three page form to fill out from CALM if you want to quietly fart down there these days.
