G`Day,
Has anyone experience with fitting a canopy to the SR5 New Hilux Dual Cab.
They have the steel cage window guard at the front of
the tub. Now I know the sport bars need to be removed but the steel guard is welded in place.
Some people say you need to cut out the guard, others say the canopy is moulded around it.
I would like to retain the guard, are their any canopies which dont need the guard cut out?
ta.

From what I can recall TJM canopies come with the option to either keep or remove the Head Board/Guard.
So you should be able to keep it.
Cheers Kev

I have a Carryboy canopy and the guard was removed to fit it. I was happy to do that as the canopy is a permenant fixture. Also, I preferred the Carryboy. If you want to keep the guard, you will need another brand of canopy.
Only reason to keep the guard is if you will remove the canopy at times.

I've got an
Alpha canopy from Bluey's ute world on my '05 Lux.
www.blueys.com.au/acc_canopies.htm
This canopy does require to have the forward steel bar cut off the tray. Apart from that though it is a good canopy, very similar to the carryboy but a lot cheaper. They had a few issues with wiring the internal canopy light as
mine was the first canopy they had fitted to the new lux, they ended up paying an auto electrician of my choice to wire it correctly.
I also took it back once to have it resealed as there were a few
water leaks when it rained but they were happy to do that at no extra cost to me.

The
Alpha looks similar to the Carryboy, but if I'm not mistaken, it is ABS (plastic), not fiberglass. Makes it heavier and the colour is probably only guaranteed for a couple of years. Carrybaoy has lifetime guarantee on the paint.
Apart from that though, it is probably a good canopy and the Carryboy is expensive.

Have a look at Tourtop Canopies, I believe they will meet your requirements. I also preferred to keep the loading board behind the cabin in the off chance that I remove the canopy or discard it when it starts to get ratty.
My understanding is that the loading board is an ADR requirement when the ute tub is not enclosed, if I'm incorrect I'm sure I'll be corrected before the day is out.

Just for information, the steel window guard has been removed from Hiluxes delivered in the past week or so.
My vehicle arrived in the country about 10 days ago, and it came fitted with fog lights, upgraded stereo, headrest in the middle of the rear
seat, and no window guard. Apparently the engine also puts out a few more kilowatts, but I haven't been able to confirm that.
Downside is that Toyota don't yet have a supply of tub liners etc that go with this mod.

Hi jb, i see you mention tub liner, I had one fitted to my last ute and was never that happy with it,
water, dirt and crap getting under it plus a few other gripes, this time with the new ute i went with a spray on liner by Line-X, so for i am very impessed, just thought I'd mention it as an alternative.
