Last sunday I parked my 2002 Patrol in the driveway and went inside for lunch. Ten minutes later I heard a hell of a thump and went out to find a 30 ft gum tree all over the car. It took myself, my wife and 23 y/o son more than an hour to get to the car with a chainsaw. Needless to say it was a little worse for wear with a fair dent in the roof and a few bends in the rear pillar and barn door. Never mind, it's insured, only $450 for the excess, no one hurt, $100 for tip fees, move on.
Monday its off to work, and suddenly the donk sounds like a cage full of canaries. The whistling gradually got to the point that I couldn't stand next to it at idle without my eardrums crying for mercy. Went to turn it off and the turbo timer decided it had run it's race so I couldn't even kill the noise. Fiddled a bit and got it turned off.
Got it back today. $1000 to replace the belts, idler pully and just for good measure the clutch in the alternator had burned out. A new clutch is $350 and blow me down that is the same price as a new alternator. Took the turbo timer out and tossed it out.
Goes in for repairs on Monday and will be gone for about a week. Anyone want to buy a GU111 ?

I could say lucky it's Nissan tough and it only got a few dents - a Toyota would have been squashed flat, but i won't go there.

What a run of bad luck - let's hope this weekend is much better for you.

Yes Fish064

The Nissan does have a clutch in the alternator pulley. It allows the alternator to free wheel if the engine revs are reduced suddenly. Apparently it is to reduce stress on the belt. Interesting little feature acts like a ratchet.

I have my alternator out at the moment with regulation problems.

yep thats a new one on me.
I cant imagine the aternater having enough momentum to cause a problem, as a Nissan motor cant reduce revs that suddenly---unless....................?
