Hi all,
just wondering if anyone else is having trouble with the above light.
The light takes ages to fire up if at all.
I have friends with the same problem and the ARB store said that this is normal.
I also have a Versa light which works great.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers
Chris.

Hi Chris
I have used ARB light for a few years and had no trouble
But I decided to buy a second one 12 months ago and have had the same problems as you, they have exchanged 2 in the last 12 months free of charge
I am about to go away up Cape York for 2 months it will be interesting to see how long my latest one lasts ??????
It pays to keep your reciepts they have replaced the light each time no questions asked I kept the reciept stating that it had been replaced under warranty so the 12 months starts again each time I get a new one as far as I'm concered I can't complain about the service "BUT" it is frustrating that the light isn't lasting the distance I always pay the extra for ARB stuff it is a quality product but something is obviously going on with there lights ???
Good Luck
Barry

12 months, in my experience, starts when you buy the product so if you are getting away with the 12 month statrting every replacement go for it.

guys they are identical to the other made in china 12v lights from primus etc.

First prob area is the connection to the globe, its just a push fit with unsoldered connections etc. if its tight no probs but if its a bit loose then high resistance will stuff it.

Other main prob is the switch, its got some pathetic connections in it, which give a crappy high resistance connection at best.

These lights need the full voltage to fire up, with a good switch and tight globe they usually fire straight up and burn nice and bright.

pop the switch apart and jump the connections, it should fire straight up. if thats the prob, grab a decent weatherproof toggle switch and wire it in instead.

hope this helps Brad

Why should you have to do this?
Take it back and throw it at them.

the switch is indeed a POC, opened with deft use of the Mash Hammer and anvil. The cord is now switchless and it works a treat. That will be $15 please

yeah the railway tracks not bad, especially if you give it a nice face off in the surface grinder first. Good for flush rivets etc.

But i miss being able to form tapers and curves on the horn section.

Maybe i need to come sniff around in your shed LOL.

cheers mate, Brad

Hi there guys, we've had the same problem with our latest ARB light. We purchased our first one some time ago, and it's been fine , however they seem to have had a bad batch, as we have a dud and so do our friends. He took his back last week, and they were very reluctant to take it back, which seems odd for an ARB store? If thats the case I wont purchase another one We'll go for maybe the primus.

Same with mine. I pulled it to bits and played with the globe connections, but then I also found a loose wire in the plug, soldered that up and its fine since.

Get your money back and buy a col light. They are made on the sunshine coast.(Aussie made yeah) I have two a mate has a couple and they a excellent. All the internals are set in resin so they are strong and put out around the same as a 75w light bulb.low draw as well. I have just moved from QLD to Victoria so not sure where you can get them around here. You can get them at camping country on the sunshine coast. I paid about $100 each but they are in my humble opion the best

Cheer

Mike that depends if you want a light that turns on when you want it to turn on is Australian made and can be repaired in Aust by the same guy who built it. You get what you pay for

In that case...

I have manufactured this _really_ great light - conforms to IP68, variable light output across the range, built in lithium batter and charger - Australian designed and made and only $650 - would you like to order one?

Yep mines the same, it starts if I have the car running but no good if not, I am going to check all the connections and see if that makes a difference.

To share my experiences along a similar theme.

My light would not fire up sometimes and other times it would work perfectly. I was blaming the light but then realized it was linked to when the fridge was running. Since upgrading the wiring to the back of the vehicle I have not had this problem.

Went from 6mm Auto to 6mm squared, will probably use 8mm squared on my next vehicle as I learn and appreciate the problems associated with voltage drop.

Hi Chris,
I have the same problem as you down to a tee. I have had a Versa Light for over 12 Years and has never let me down. I wanted a second light and ARB only have their take off made in China light.

I still use the Versa Light without the ARB backup light.

Have the same problem with mine and my primus one which is exactly the same light. I just did the CSR and found it played up if you tried to turn it on in the cold weather as we got further north no more problems. A mate had one with him and his played up at exactly the same time and places as mine always when cold.

Cheers Drifta

Try lightly tapping the light against your palm or rubbing the casing with your hand
The static helps them fire up.

Hi,

Same issue with mine. I also find a slight tap gets it going, nothing major.

Dissappoint to find it is just a cheapish Chinese light, sold at the normal ARB premium price. Mine is several years old and bought as a gift, so no use returning it.

Pitch'em all to the sheissenhausen I say.

They're a rip.

Arlec do a 12 volt light that is brighter than a Versa and only costs 50 biggies. Mine is two years old, has had a flogging and is still glowing stronger than that liitle weasel Johnny Howard.

Actually I might give the Arlec a go Jim. I've had nothing but bad luck with lights, expensive and cheap, I've gone through so many I'm over it, now my friggin 240 volt Arlec is playing up but I'm willing to give their 12 volt job a shot.

Stop messing around Mad Dog and give the Harding Special a go. Normally $650 but I'll give you the plans and you can buy the bits for about $25 - honest! :)

Whatever the problem, it's cheeky of the ARB store to say it is normal! A 12v light shouldn't need any 'work' so that it works from a 12v source?
