Canning Stock Route

G'day Ian.
I usually start off with about 40ltr of good water per person.
To preserve as much as possible of that for drinking we fill / top up empty containers at wells 49, 33, 26, Georgia Bore, wells 15, 12 and 6.
Some is better than other. We add Micropur to purify that water.
Unless an area around one of the wells has recently been flooded there is no problem with water quality,
but of course you would boil it before use.
By using well/bore water for all cooking, washing, washing up etc. we usually have some of our original water left at the end of the trip.

I'll most likely also be out there again in 2007, but not before August.

When travelling along the CSR during busy times it's advisable to inform the Kunawarritju Community of your fuel requirements. A couple of years ago we had to sit at well 33 for a couple of days waiting for new fuel to arrive.

We have done the full Canning once and part Canning twice. The full Canning was done from North to South and IMHO it was much harder than doing it from the south. This year I towed a trailer up to Georgia Bore(where we left the CSR) without any hassles.

We carry 100lts water with us on our bush trips and top up when we can even if it is 10 litres at a time

At present NO permits are required but there are moves afoot that may require permits to access camping areas in the future.

There is a burnt out TD Prado 3km south of Georgia Bore. Not sure of the reason for the burn but the most likely scenario would be a build up of dry grass next to exhaust system.
