We are awaiting stocks of the new model diesel prado.

Is it only an engine upgrade, or are there rumours of more changes.

Thanks

Went to Order a new VX TD Prado this morning and was told by the dealer that it will be a three month wait, but the good news is that it will be the new 3L common rail diesel with a 5 speed auto. He didn't think there would be any other changes as this is all Toyota has told him so far. Production of the new Prado's began 1 October.

Herkman, Toyota local dealer gave me a print out on changes,3ltr common rail tubo diesel,5 speed auto. The GX is going to resemble the currant model GXL less fog lights & steel 17x7.5 rims.GXL to resemble currant model VX with privacy glass & roof rails.VX will get power front seats leather seat trim , leather/woodgrain door trim. GRANDE stays the same except for mechanical changes. I will believe this when i see one.

Friar,
This is exactly what i was told by a bloke who has ordered one. No massive changes apart from the Diesel engine.

Cheers
Dave.

what is the cost on the common rail Prado??

I've been interested for a while that at the moment a diesel Prado is the same cost as a petrol Prado (last time I looked, just short of $50k), a petrol cruiser(V8) is around $55k, and a diesel is almost $15k more than that.. You can go second hand, but the same variances still apply.

I was told by local dealer, to expect a 4% increase in price for the CRD engine. this would make the list around $52,000.

The UK brocure for the crd engine shows fuel economy of 13.1 for urban but climbs to 8.2 country with combined of 10.4. This is for auto, for manual it is 11.6 8.2 and 9.5 respectively.

This means on my auto, I could expect to see at 12.6 versus 10.4 a 18% saving on fuel costs. I also expect the CRD to be less noisy.

Col,

Out of interest, when the CRD engine was released some years ago overseas, the claimed fuel consumption improvement was 9%.

The 1KD-FTV is direct injection. Don't expect it to be quieter than the indirect injection 1KZ-TE.

Yes Phil I have no doubt that was correct at the time.

But as they have since added an extra cog, then that must keep the cruise revs down.
