Recently upgraded the headlights on my GQ to Hella H4 semi sealed. I didn't even think about
water crossings when buying them. Have always had sealed beams so didn't give it a second thought. The last thing I want is to have
water bugger the globes after a
creek crossing.
Is there a way of
water proofing semi sealed head lights?
Thanks

Hopefully yours came with the usual rubber cover/cap that goes on the rear of the light. The caps have baffle seal for pressure equalisation, since the temperature from the bulb does heat the air up in the light.
Have not had one of these seals leak on me. Make sure they stay in good condition.
It should be a firm push around the back of the globe, and
seat firmly on the back of the light, with the vent to the bottom.
There are different qualities in the seals provided :-)
Can be pain to take off and put on sometimes if they area good fit, but a smear of vaseline or lanolin grease helps the seal.

I have had semi-sealed on my GQ for many years.
Agree that IF the rubber boots are on properly, not bent out of shape or loose, then this is not an issue. The rubber would not want to be snagged on anything behind the fitting or you could have problems.
Cheers

Hey Barnesy,
How much did they cost mate and how good are they compared to the standard lights. Also did you have to upgrade your wiring for these lights?

The H4 lights cost about $60 each from Sprint, and the halogen globes were about $15 each. I got globes that were the same wattage etc as the originals so didn't have to upgrade any wiring. Just a straight swap over that took 20 minutes.
Compared to the standard lights,
well they are no comparison. Improvement of 300%. On the highway at night I used to have to slow to 85 kmh when dipping spotlights, now i don't have to.

Hey Barnsey. I had upgraded my lights with IPF's recently also semi sealed and have been through about 6 crossings over the headlights since and they have not leaked. it may be different if the lights were hot. As long as the seals are in the correct position and not worn they should not leak.
Maybe if you stopped in crossing you might get some ingress but then
water in your headlights will be the least of your worries!
Mine are waaaay better than the sealed beams
