Heard on the ABC to day (and its not April 1) so it must be true.......WA police arrested some coot for dangerousdriving........seaking to travel the last 500km of his regional journey ....in reverse ! A serious gearbox issue apparently - but he found that reverse was ok. Missed the other detail re location etc...... look..... knowing some sandgropers, it might be true :-0)

Be interesting to know what fuel consumption he was getting!
Bet he couldn't do it on one
tank.

Oldplodder
If he is driving backwards, won't that take the kilometres of his odometer??
As such, he would be getting excellent fuel economy (driving negative Kms)!!!!!
Just a thought ?

yeah reverse can be good somedays. I remember many years ago when we couldn't get up some mongrel bush
hill in 1st, reverse gear was lower so we just backed her up..sweet

Just for $hits and giggles (and maybe 'general' knowledege):
is there a law against driving in reverse?
and
what would be the speed limit for such a 'manouvere'
and
Does it apply in QLD?

Interesting.
My old man had an Austin Champ back in the 60's. That had 5 gears, and a reverse/forward selector, so you could go as fast in reverse as in forward. My brother decided to take it for a run in reverse on the highway at about 30mph (wouldn't do km/h for some reason). Got some odd looks from other drivers! And a bit tricky steering the thing in reverse at that speed. Not sure that my neck would cope these days...

Not sure, however i take it you can't be booked for not having a seatbelt on :-)

about 25 years ago my mate and myself drove 60
miles in reverse and were picked up by the men in blue who said we were on the wrong side of the road so in turn were going the wrong way and if we didn't turn around would be booked. and for the record were on the side of the road not in the middle of the lane. and my brother got a flat with no spare and put a rim on as not to stuff new tyre and was booked for insufficient tread depth. so with that i would say it is illegal.
